God loves me in spite of my faults and sins – My Personal Relationship with Jesus 2021-10-25T11:33:11-05:00 Chris A. Longobardo
Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.
My personal relationship with Jesus means I am aware of my faults. God loves me in spite of my faults and sins.
We rub up against conflict whenever friction/ strife happens. I have news for you, your emotions are part of your body. That’s “the rub.”
Dealing with challenging/ difficult situations isn’t easy, and a lot of people don’t want to do it. Mature people have done it. Emotionally intelligent people have done it. They are mature and emotionally intelligent because they dealt with difficult situations in spite of the challenge.
We know that video games have difficulty settings. Some people play games at a higher difficulty level.
Learner type personalities are always learning. “Always be the student” can be the mission statement of the learner type personality. A bad part of being a learner-type personality is I don’t like to learn everything I have learned. I cannot unlearn some things I have learned. Some people will be disturbed by the truths I have discovered. Some people will be shocked.
I asked for this gift.
Personal experience is personal and direct. It means that I have rubbed up against it. I have encountered it, and it has encountered me. It has rubbed off on me. You have heard of empathy. The ability to understand and share the feelings of another means I feel your emotional state and my own.
To be aware means I am aware of your emotional state distinct from my own.
Our imagination and our heart is used when we do have empathy. It is likely I am not very selfish if I have a heart for other people.
Some people become inconsolable because they cannot stop the torrent of their emotions.
Some people do not feel the emotions of other people because they are selfish. Those people can still feel their emotions, but they don’t feel my emotions because they are used to thinking of themselves.
Selfish people only have a heart for themselves. Some people don’t have the imagination required to have empathy.
The problem of emotional intelligence and maturity through dealing with challenging/ difficult situations and learning through contemplation includes knowing the cause of my dismay, and the cause of dismay in others. Human beings are not very different from one another. I believe, “No trial has come to you but what is human,” reveals this fact (1 Corinthians 10:13)
The cause of our dismay can be simplified.
It should be simplified because emotions can be complicated. The cause of our dismay will often be caused by anger and/ or sorrow.
I have recently said that anger exists to make changes. We should change if we can change something for the better. Some will resist change because they don’t know how to change for the better. Anger still exists as a way to make us do something physical after we feel anger. Sorrow is different. People familiar with depression will know that the behavior of depressed people is sleeping. Sorrow often makes us hold in place. Anxiety often makes us hold in place.
So I will ask, what happened to you before you felt angry? What happened to you before you felt sad? There is usually an event that precedes the time when I am aware I am angry or sad.
I will find what made me angry/ sad If I can retrace my steps to the time or place I first got angry/ sad. I can deal with it once I have found the cause. The “dealing with it” can be good or bad. Anger still exists to make changes. Good anger means what I do with my anger has a purpose/ principle in God. God is good all of the time.
“God is faithful and will not let you be tried beyond your strength,” in the context of emotional intelligence and maturity, means that conflict has made me stronger. I am better off by dealing with it.
(reference 1 Corinthians 10:13)
Intelligence or experience will come to those that learn. We are aware that God makes us strong where we are weak. You may be aware that God’s grace is building on human nature.
Believers have an advantage that non-believers do not.
All of us will be tried, or experience trials/ challenges/ conflict. You are trying my patience. I will not be tried beyond my capacity to endure emotions if I have intelligence of the cause of my dismay. I have experienced them before, and I remember where they come from.
One would think that all of our problems cannot be simplified by the cause of my anger or the cause of my sorrow. You can still try to simplify.
The people that do not learn the life lessons I am speaking of don’t get smarter in the way I am describing, do they? I pray for all of the people that are afraid of becoming an adult. I don’t wanna grow up, I’m a Toys-R-Us kid. They got a million toys at Toys R us that I can play with.
“With the trial [God] will also provide a way out, so that you may be able to bear it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13) Anyone that has played a video game knows there are strategies one can take when stuck in a corner. The divine grace that flows from the side of Christ on the Holy Cross exists for God to make sinners endure the temptation to sin, and not sin. I am also provided a way to deal with emotional/ challenging/ difficult situations and become a better person afterwards. God’s grace also helps us become better people, but especially better Christians.
In a way, I am describing how I deal with suffering.
People don’t like the reality of suffering. It’s not always physical pain and suffering, sometimes it’s only emotional. That doesn’t mean it isn’t real. Our brain makes it real. That’s another example of why emotional states are connected to the body. So, get your psychological self in good working order.
Death is the separation of body and soul. So, people will think that death of the senses or death of the body is a good choice in the face of suffering. I disagree. I have done that before. Life was not better when I did it that way.
7 The end of all things is at hand. Therefore, be serious and sober for prayers.
8 Above all, let your love for one another be intense, because love covers a multitude of sins.
9 Be hospitable to one another without complaining.
10 As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace.
11 Whoever preaches, let it be with the words of God; whoever serves, let it be with the strength that God supplies, so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
1 Peter 4:7-11
I have news for you, your emotions are part of your body. That’s “the rub.” May the Lord, Jesus Christ, be with your spirit. He had a human body just like ours.
