Co-creating conscious community

Co-creating conscious community 2011-01-24T11:32:35-05:00 Julie Colwell

Last night, about 45 of us gathered together to take the next step of the magical journey towards co-creating conscious community in Boulder. I felt giddy with the excitement of the night, and dizzy with the potential of what all of these magnificent humans could do together.

For the past year, I’ve had the vision of the BCCC (aka “BC3”) being like Emerald City–a place where people come together to create the  magic that comes from living authentic lives, finding our essence, expressing our genius. One of the tags of the BC3 has become “BC3: where everyone is our own wizard.” Accordingly, we wove an actual yellow brick road (fabric, not brick, thanks to Bet and Cindy) with our mutual dreams. We also began the evening with the lyrics from the song from the Wizard of Oz where Dorothy and her pals are coming up to the gates of the Emerald City, “Optimistic Voices.” Do you remember that song? It’s the one where these really high, cheery, angelic voices  welcome them. I never knew the actual words they were singing until I looked them up. Imagine the voices singing these words now:

You’re out of the woods

You’re out of the dark

You’re out of the night

Step into the sun

Step into the light

Keep straight ahead for the most glorious place

On the face of the earth or the sky

Hold onto your breath

Hold onto your heart

Hold onto your hope

March up to the gate and bid it open

[Note: These words were written by the lyricist and writers of Wizard in 1938-9, and were by the socialists A. “Yip” Harburg, who also wrote BROTHER CAN YOU SPARE A DIME, which was banned by FDR for a while bacause he didnt want to have anyone talking or singing about the Great Depression. Thanks to Beth for this information.]

We bade the gate to open last night, the gate to new possibilities, beginning “the journey of co-creating our very best lives, both individually and together, in service of our own vitality, that of the community, and that of the planet.” (This, from the opening remarks of the Visionary/Leadership Holon.)

Today, I feel so much gratitude and appreciation that I have all of these pals–from last night, from around the world, reading these words now–with whom to walk this magical road.
