“Is there any more gifts for me?”

Last week, we got our annual World Vision’s Christmas Gift Catalog along with pictures of the kids with specific needs that you can pray for.

I wanted to do something crafty with my 5 yr. old, Ran to help him remember these kids in a time of year that he is bombarded with full meals, warm beds, Christmas cookies & cakes, and more toys than he has time to play with.

We decided to look around the cupboards where we found some beans that I will likely never use that I’d been planning to make a delicious soup with! 🙂

We used paint brushes to dip in a bowl of Elmer’s Glue to apply to our cardboard canvases.

Yay for beans! 🙂

Ransom’s custom design!

Ran wanted to me to trace the shape of a CD for his background.  He chose a beautiful design for a little girl named Talia from Lebanon who needs warm blankets to sleep under this winter.  Ransom made this for his Auntie J who is from Lebanon.

Another Ranson creation! 🙂

I got a little carried away while I was making mine and decided to add some seasoning to the background for a little extra kick.  Well, of course, within a few minutes of pouring seasoning all over the place I started sneezing violently!

Crafters tip:  go easy on the seasoning packets! 🙂

We decided to put “our kids,” above the kitchen sink so that every time we go over to the sink we can say a little prayer -specifically by name- for these precious pumpkins in need of such basic essentials.

Amidst our wealth, the contrast is so great, isn’t it?

We are also planning to pull these out on Christmas morning and pray for the kiddos before we open our own gifts.  I’m hoping Ransom will begin to see and understand more deeply the giant chasm between what he has and what much of the rest world has.

Last year at 4 years old, after each gift he continued to ask, “is there any more for me?”  “Mama, I want more and more gifts!”

I often find myself asking that, “is there any more (purses, jeans, jewlrey, music, DVD’s, new appliances, etc.) for me?”

I often find myself saying, “I want more & more gifts,” and not just at Christmas time!

I think it’s not just helpful for Ransom, but for me to learn to be content with what I have and to BE SURE TO BE A PART of providing the basic essentials for others who need it.

p.s. Don’t forget you have 2 more days to try & win a beautiful heart pendant from Heart of Haiti.  Just comment on this post to win an entry.  Proceeds from Heart of Haiti Fair Trade Products go to benefit the poor of Haiti who are using their skills to generate income for their families.
