My sweet boys!

All my sweet boys!

My main man has been such a committed, loving, consistent, awesome Dad to our little kiddos.  Growing up, I may have given two moments thoughts to what kind of Dad my future husband would be.  Not in my wildest dreams did I think my kids would hit the jackpot like they did with Dave.  I couldn’t ask for more.

He loves them unconditionally.  Ransom adores him.  Rhys, well, at 8 months he’s a schooch indifferent. 🙂

I would love it if Dave & Ransom would keep the toilet seat down, but nobody’s perfect, eh?  It’s not too late for little Rhys if I teach him early!IMG_0772

Today, as Ran & I made Dave a card I felt a twinge of sadness of not having my own Dad around today.  He’s been gone for awhile now & I haven’t usually experienced any sadness around Father’s day but today it was about the kids.

I felt sad that Ransom & Rhys will never sit on his lap & smile with him.  Or the simple fact that he never met them.

I was also mulling over the idea that the boys will never know one of their only black relatives.

And, that they’ll know only one Grandpa -loving as he is- not two.  (I never knew either of mine & I turned out okay, but still).

It all felt a little sad to me today, in a take-me-by-surprise sort of way.  As Dave & I prayed about it together I felt peace knowing the kids are loved by so many.

Happy Father's Day, Grandpa B! ;)

Happy Father's Day, Grandpa B! 😉

They’ll see pics of their black grandfather and they will learn their African-American heritage from me.  They have a “Grandpa B” who loves them very much & even better: an awesome Daddy.  They will be all right.

So will I.

IMG_0300Anyway, we celebrated today by going to McDonalds (my husband’s choice after offering to take him anywhere) even though we just spent three days at McDonalds’ headquarters! (More on that later, by the way).  We also took the fam to see Toy Story 3 (review later).  After a nap, a great dinner & family time, I think all in all, Dave felt celebrated.

Last year on Fathers Day I made not just one, but two albums of Dave & Ransom in the past 4.5 years of fatherdom. (not a real word, but it is to me)! 🙂

Poor little Rhys has a lot less Daddy pics (or pics in general) but no less love.

Happy Fathers Day to all the Dad’s!
