Nana, Ran & I

Nana, Ran & I

I have a great set of moms.  My biological mother who all her grandchildren call, “Nana” came over last weekend to help me out with Ransom.  She was so perplexed by how much laundry needed to be done she did all of it (a lot) & also out of sheer frustration cleaned out our fridge, swept & mopped the kitchen floor & vacuumed the house.  I happened to be feeling miserable this weekend -really tired & really nauseaus- so the timing was perfect.  I’m so thankful for her.

My other mom, whom Ransom calls “Grandma B,” is my mother’n’law but we may as well be related because we love each other like we are.  Grandma B is coming to take Ransom for a few days while I study my booty off for various finals and papers due in this last stretch of school.  Grandma B also comes over twice a month and helps with yardwork, housecleaning & Ransom care.  It’s okay if you feel jealous I do have the BEST two moms around & I couldn’t appreciate their love & support anymore than we all ready do.

On this Thursday I will “perform” the book of Ruth for one of my classes.  One of the dominant themes -it seems- is the relationship of nurture and care between Ruth and Naomi.  The book itself is such an affirmation of the blessings of relationships.  Memorizing it has caused me to think a lot about how grateful I am to have these two wonderful women in my life.

My mother (my bio mom) she would give me her left arm if I needed it.  While she was here for 2 days I think she told me she loved me about 10 times.  Again, because of being saturated in Ruth, it caused me to remember that my mom articulated those words to me over & over & over & over again from the earliest I can remember.  Something I’m trying to emulate in my relationship with Ransom.  Though my mom & I have had some dark times, as she has struggled through an illness I have always been assured of one thing –she loves me.  And my other mom has done the same in lettin me know I am loved & I am a part of the family.  That is a gift.  It reminds me of the love of commitment between Ruth & Naomi.

Well anyway, I guess I could have saved this post until Mother’s day, but found it to be bubbling up inside me today.

Here, here to moms everywhere!
