Do you have a poor man’s vacation story?

One of the benefits of having a wife who works for an airline is the blessing of easy air travel. Before the kids we regularly traveled. As the kidos get older we are now beginning to see that we can travel with them. It takes a great deal more preparation to bring two 4-year olds, but it is conceivable.

This weekend we pack up the fam for a long weekend away to Colorado Springs — This is the poor man’s summer Vacation! My best friend in the world, Kelly Williams, is the founding pastor of a church in Colorado Springs. He and his wife Tosha moved to the Springs 14 years ago and planted a they called Vanguard. So we’re hanging with them for a few days. Kelly and Tosha have 5 kids so a handful more doesn’t really seem to bother them. Thanks Kelly and Tosha!

Growing up this was the way my family vacationed. We never we went somewhere that was specifically a vacation spot say Disney World. Our parents loaded us up in a station wagon and drove from NJ to visit Aunt Gale and Uncle Wade in Oklahoma or Aunt and uncle so and so in Nebraska, who, by the way,  really weren’t related to us, but our parents told us to call them aunt and uncle. Of course we do that now with our kids too!

However, my family never went to Colorado. Let me say OK is a fine state, but it ain’t no Colorado! If you’ve not been to CO you need to get a close friend to move there so you can visit.  In Colorado it seems as if the sun is always shining and with Pikes Peak in the background you can’t get more picturesque than the Springs.

We’ll be attending Vanguard Church on Sunday and I’ll say more about the church later. I have what I think to be a relatively large number of close friends who are church planters (since I’m not one) and it is a calling that I respect so much. Church planters are people of faith, perseverance and possess significant leadership gifts. Do we have any church planters that read our blog?
