But what can stay hidden?

Love’s secret is always

lifting its head

out from under the covers.

Just a few weeks ago, my father’s wife of 13 years passed away,

and yesterday was his 94th birthday.

I’m staying with him for this entire month of October.

There is much to do when a loved one transitions,

and I realize how blessed I am to be with him during

his time of loss and adjustment.

I realize how blessed we all are to celebrate this 94th year of his life with him,

still in good health, sharp and witty as ever.

In many ways, it will be difficult to return home at the end of this month.

However, I must admit I’m also looking forward to

returning to my home and my routine.

I’m anxious to get back to my regular work schedule,

to get back on track with my clients and programs

and income-earning activities.

I’m distressed about getting so out of synch

with my exercise routine and eating schedule,

my meditation and prayer practices.

My body feels heavy and sluggish.

My energy field feels full of static; my heart feels constricted

and my breath feels shallow.

I’ve worried about wasting time watching television,

about what is not being accomplished as the time is slipping by,

while I’m here, not getting things done.

What if I miss an opportunity in work and career…

but what about the opportunity I have today?

I will never regret delighting in every morsel of sweetness

from this very moment, and every moment I am here.

Reading this poem tonight helped me realize

the many places love is hiding right under my nose,

and just how much I’m missing while I’m looking into the future.

Who knows if I will ever have this much time with my father again?

God has given me yet another amazing gift!

My Beloved, please help me to fully receive Your gifts,

to never waste any opportunity to receive and know Your love!

Is love hiding from you?

Love is everywhere you look.

Where are you looking?

What is in front of your eyes right now?

Or under your nose?

My spiritual teacher used to say,

“It is closer to you than your own jugular vein!”

Nothing is closer to you than

the Essence of the One.
