- An Early Review of “No Easy Choice”
An Early Review of “No Easy Choice”

An Early Review of “No Easy Choice” 2012-01-27T06:00:01-05:00 Ellen Painter Dollar
Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.
As reviewers and bloggers start receiving their copies of my new book No Easy Choice: A Story of Disability, Parenthood, and Faith in an Age of Advanced Reproduction, I’ll be posting links to their reviews on my web site’s Publications page.
But I wanted to point out one reviewer who is going above and beyond the usual one-time, several-paragraph review. Melissa Florer-Bixler is a divinity school student, a Mennonite, and mother to two young children (the second only a few weeks old!). I got to know Melissa when she responded to my online call several years ago for people to share with me their reproductive decisions. Her experience in a L’Arche community (a group home in which people with mental disabilities live alongside their caregivers, to the benefit of all) convinced her that she and her husband would welcome any child they had, and would not undergo extensive prenatal tests.
On her excellent blog, Sign on the Window, Melissa is doing a series of posts on No Easy Choice. Melissa’s reflections on the book are less a review and more of a commentary. She takes points I made and fleshes them out, offering readers some new ways to think about the difficult ethical questions raised by reproductive technologies. Even I learn something new by reading what Melissa has to say about my own book!
So far, she has posted two entries in her series on No Easy Choice. I hope you’ll read them, and let Melissa know what you think.
