The Edge of Elfland
Hudson, New Hampshire
Dearest Readers,
As many of you know, last year, in April, I took a job as a literature teacher at a small, private, Classical, Catholic high school. Over the summer this transitioned into Dean of Humanities. I love my job. My students are inquisitive, my colleagues are incredibly intelligent and passionate. But, a job like this has come, at least recently, with less and less time for the blog. I’m not satisfied with this. I want to be writing more for you, my faithful readers. But to do that, I need a bit of help.
While I have a nice job, it is in a place where housing costs are astronomical. Then you add in kids (present, and hopefully future some day), PhD debt, and more, and we’re just getting by. That makes it difficult for me to expend time here or go to conferences or to work on new books or journal articles. So, I’m asking for your help in the same way a busker does. I’ll play no matter how much I make, but I hope to make a bit.
In case you’re wondering about Patheos, the truth is they don’t pay me. I don’t generate enough traffic to get paid by them. But if you like the little pieces of the premodern, of Elfland, of weird Catholicism that I bring, I’m asking for your patronage, not just as readers, but as real patrons, people who contribute financially to help continue to create as I try to do here and elsewhere. Your help will mean more blog posts, more conferences which I can tell you about, and hopefully more articles and books.
So, how can you help? While regular donations would be wonderful, I’ll take anything. All you have to do is click on the Support link at the top of the blog (or right here), click on donate and give. Your support will keep the candles burning here at Letters from the Edge of Elfland. So, if you think my work worth supporting, if you think the world could do with a little more of my brand of beauty, I ask that you consider helping out. On my part, I promise, one way or the other, to start writing more, at least 3 posts a week. I’ll also keep you all up to date on my writing projects, speaking engagements, and more. Whatever you decide, I hope that you’ll at least keep reading. In any event, I’ll keep writing.
Until next time, I remain ever
Yours,
David
