A Passionate & Refreshing Voice

Luke Tillman is a rising and refreshing voice for this generation. Though young, he’s passionate about preaching the Gospel and helping others come to know God for themselves.

But where does this desire come from? Who inspires him to walk in his God-given purpose?

Below, I’ll answer these questions by highlighting his upbringing, family values, and rise to notoriety. I’ll also mention critics’ comments, Luke’s goals as an author, and offer encouragement to help him mature in his faith.

The Tillman Family from Detroit, Michigan

The Guidance of Ezra & Catrina Tillman

Luke Tillman was born on June 23, 2017, in Detroit, Michigan. He is the youngest son of Ezra and Catrina Tillman. Ezra and Catrina also have three older sons, Erza III, Micah, and Isaac.

With names like Ezra, Micah, Isaac, and Luke, you can probably tell that the Tillman family reveres the Bible. Their reverence comes from Ezra Tillman Jr., the senior pastor of First Baptist Church Piney Grove in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida.

As pastor, he compassionately preaches the Gospel with love and respect for everyone, knowing “their destiny is at hand.” In addition to preaching from the pulpit to meet people’s spiritual needs, he also knows the importance of serving in the community.

During the Flint, Michigan water crisis, he and actor Jaden Smith created the Water Box. The Water Box is a filtration center that can fill a five-gallon jug of water in less than a minute.

Along with the Water Box, Flint’s water crisis inspired Ezra and his wife, Catrina, to establish the Revive Community Health Center. This center exists to decrease the maternal and infant mortality rate and low birth rate in Black communities.

While Ezra loves pastoring and serving the community, he knows his immediate family is among his top priorities. He and Catrina have been married for 19 years and teach their sons the value of spiritual disciplines like prayer and accountability.

Luke Tillman’s Inspiration & Rise to Notoriety

Ezra’s ability to be an integral spiritual leader for his family, church, and community makes him a blessed man. Therefore, he’s a recipient of Solomon’s promise in Proverbs 20:7, which mentions how a righteous man’s children are blessed.

This blessing manifests through all of Ezra’s sons as they love the Lord and desire to follow His ways. But for his youngest son Luke, this blessing comes with a calling to preach the gospel at an early age.

When Luke was two years old, he began asking to be baptized. At three, Luke was having dreams about preaching at a church in Florida.

While his parents were excited about his enthusiasm for the Lord, they hesitated, wanting to give him time to grow and mature. However, they couldn’t ignore the urgency of God’s call on his life. Consequently, he began preaching publicly at two and was baptized at four.

Ironically, the spiritual ritual of baptism is what helped Luke become a viral sensation. When he was five, his mother recorded him baptizing his Paw Patrol stuffed animal. Luke said he did it because the toy needed the Holy Ghost.

Many thought it was a cute, innocent moment bringing spiritual positivity to social media. However, God used the moment to elevate a child who’s unashamed of his faith.
