Finally, a Guinness Record for Mahatama Gandhi!

Last updated on: January 30, 2012 at 2:26 pm   By Desh Kapoor

We have all sorts of ways to get to the Guinness Book somehow.  At least this kids got to display their love for non-violence and peace. Aged between ten and sixteen, the kids, most of whom are from single mothers, walked for half a kilometer distance at Mayo Road in central Kolkata during the peace march. Upholding the morals and ethics of the Father of the Nation, the walk metaphorically reminisced his principles of truth, justice and non-violence. After evaluating... Read more

Life under the clouds without an Umbrella

Last updated on: January 30, 2012 at 3:37 am   By Desh Kapoor

Have you tasted the air with the fragrance of rain laden clouds in their openness? Without the protection of the umbrella, however beautiful! When the umbrellas fly off leaving you exposed to the nature which nurtures life through its own elements – can you let your piece of life mingle with its greater self? Life – not in various definitions or adjectives that we have conjured up – but life as it the happening of our living. When we look... Read more

Osama’s Death and Pakistan

Last updated on: January 29, 2012 at 2:57 am   By Desh Kapoor

Osama Bin Laden’s saga will turn out to be one issue that is going to define Pakistan and even its relationship to the world in the coming decades. Why? Because a lot of what is happening and what will happen in the future is because the veil over the actions by the Jehadis and the Government – which often has acted as the shield or even an extension of the Jehadis – has been blown away. The lid on this... Read more

The Business of Death: Cremation vs Embalming

Last updated on: January 27, 2012 at 4:57 pm   By Desh Kapoor

Unbeknownst to many who don’t live in the US, Death is a very lucrative industry. And if the Indians think that the Haridwar-based Sati-Ghat side Panda (pandit) is asking for too much when he demands Rs 2000 (~$40), then one has to look at the proportions of spending one has to do in US on death. And, the way trends are in the US, the Death Industry is worried as…. Hell!! As per a rather morbidly named “Cremation Association of... Read more

What does it mean to be Hindu or Spiritual?

Last updated on: January 27, 2012 at 3:14 am   By Desh Kapoor

Where is America’s Spiritual soul moving towards? When you listen to the popular political discourse, you see the shrill voices of the Tea Party guys, the Rick Santorums, the Republicans and Evangelicals who are out to sell you Salvation that someone sold to them, but no one has ever seen or experienced. But this lot of convinced. “Beyond any shadow of doubt”. It is like a group of people, who don’t have a diamond, never touched it, never seen it,... Read more

Audacity of the Corrupt: Mulayam’s question to Anna

Last updated on: January 25, 2012 at 11:06 pm   By Desh Kapoor

The entire movement of Team Anna was built on the sentiment of commen men and women wearing “I Am Anna” on their head. That meant what Anna was asking of the political class, every Indian who supported him, also wanted to ask. So to treat Anna’s ask in his campaign as just the talk of 4 or 5 people, is foolish! The very success of the grassroots campaign is evidence of that. For the politicians to behave that somehow Anna... Read more

India buys Iran Oil for Gold – Making Enemies at what cost?

Last updated on: January 25, 2012 at 9:00 pm   By Desh Kapoor

India and China need Petroleum. Lots of it. Now, that US and the Western countries are going against Iran and imposing sanctions, India is all set to create a new front. And some amazing enemies. Israel will not be happy. Neither US. Nor the other Western countries. All that would be fine, if India were to work in its own national interest. But it seems we are doing something dangerous. An Indian delegation visited Tehran last week to discuss payment... Read more
