After the lineage is maligned and the Dharma of our lineage is also destroyed. Once the dharma of our lineage is destroyed, adharma of all kinds starts growing.
After the adharma (negative dharma) starts growing, the women of the family get polluted, and after that the dharma of the varna also gets destroyed.
Those who destroy the dharma of their lineage fall into the hell. The forefathers of these people don’t receive proper rituals based care and their salvation is not possible.

The coming generations of these people, who have hurt the dharma of the lineage, also get destoyed.
Hey Janardhan, people, whose dharma of the lineage has been destroyed, stay in the hell for indefinite time. So, I have heard.
Hey Sir, we are standing here eager to participate in this great sin! For the desire of kingdom and happiness, we are anxious to kill our own relatives.
If I show no resistance and don’t pick my arms and the sons of Dhritrashtra, kill me in this battle – I think that will be better than fighting them.
With this, in pain, anguish and sorrow, Arjun left his bow and sat at the back of his chariot.
Discussion
Just because something is in Bhagwad Gita, doesn’t make it the philosophy of Gita or of Krishna. There are two significant things about Hindu scriptures:
1. They are mostly question and answer types, where the seeker grows as the time goes on. So, the seeker shows signs of immaturity and asks and even frames questions out his/her ignorance.
2. Unfortunately, instead of learning from our texts, we have made our texts into something to be only revered. So, we look at everything in it as sacred. Which means we do not hesitate to bestow divinity to even Arjun, who was in total ignorance before the message of Gita was given.
What Arjun says here about how fighting and killing his close kith and kin will hurt the dharma of his family and “pollute” the women and make the entire generations go to hell, comes out of ignorance. The entire message of Gita, heretofore, is about the irrelevance of attachments and relationships in the broader sense.
Because of the basic nature of Q&A format and the fact that most of us Hindus rever this book, we do not understand the context of Gita properly.
Without appreciating Arjun’s ignorance; the wisdom of Shri Krishna cannot be comprehended.
Violence is not a great idea. It should never be used for anything – but the truth is that Violence is still used by cosmos to regenerate itself. One doesn’t need to go in search for violent situations, but if some come up and despite all the efforts to diffuse it, the enemy still insists on war, then it is not a prudent idea to leave the field.
In the next chapter, we will come across the reply from Shri Krishna, where he will take Arjun through the first “baby steps” in the spiritual exploration, before being more direct as we go.
