The Uselessness of a Relative God!

The Uselessness of a Relative God! 2007-03-12T22:46:47-05:00 Desh Kapoor

LOGO Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.

In the world of relativity, the concept of "God" makes sense only when it has the basic characteristic of being absolute. However, in creating the concept of God, mostly after one’s own characteristic, the religious have faltered here tellingly. In most religions and sects, God exists along with souls/spirits and nature/’creation’. This is often referred to as the "Dualistic view of God".

Under this view, if there are two or three distinct entities, each one’s boundaries would end somewhere for the boundaries of the other (s) to start. The position of each one is, then, relative to the other! Can each or any "exist" on their own?

The only stream of logic that can help bridge this dichotomy is when one assumes that "God" is nothing but the primordial substance or a Universal Consciousness.. a juice, if you will, that is itself the creator, the creation, and the rest.

An entity can only be "absolute" when it just is. There can be no description or explaining for it. For any explanation makes it subject to comparisons, a natural corrolary of causality.

The importance of "God" is in explaining the origins of creation and its rationale. In that sense, the conceptual "God" needs to serve the basic need of being unchangeable and being static and absolute while the creation, part of itself, is "changing"… albeit apparently. Relative "God", whose own definition, is predicated on the position of other entities, will necessarily be a "changing" God. For, if X is relative to Y, and Y is a variable, then by logic, X is a variable too. For X to be a constant, Y also needs to be a constant as well! Now, in the "God-Creation" equation, creation is assumed to be created by God, so here in our equation, a constant X gives birth to another constant Y. If that be so, then by reason, X – having a constant value – can only give birth to something that equal to its own value! So, if 4 gives rise to 4.. and they co-exist, are they different? Where do the boundaries of equal constants end and where does anything else start?

"God" is a man-made concept. "God" does not come on"sky"line every morning to announce who "He/She/It" is and why is "He/She/It’ is here for? We have a need to know why are we here? And so we have created a useful concept. This concept should at least serve that basic purpose!
