The Doxology Project

About Me

I’m a small-town pastor living under the big Kansas sky.

After growing up on a farm in central Illinois, I hit the road for Boston where I studied at the Harvard Divinity School.  I’ve served congregations in rural Washington, the mountains of Peru, and now–because God is good–the great plains of Kansas.

I’m convinced that following Jesus is the most compelling way to live, and that whoever we are and wherever we’re at, God’s given us everything we need to undertake the journey.  The Doxology Project is about walking the Jesus way and praising God in the everyday tangle of human life.

I’ve written on the rural church for Christian Century, CT Pastors, Sojourners, and various Mennonite publications.  My first book, God’s Country: Faith, Hope, and the Future of the Rural Church (Herald Press), won a 2018 Christianity Today Award of Merit.

My latest book is on communion: The Hunger Inside: How the Meal Jesus Gave Transforms Lives (Paraclete Press 2022).
