Using Daffodils in Magick

Last updated on: March 26, 2019 at 9:25 pm   By Courtney Weber

Daffodils are friendly and lovely, but sorely taken for granted in Magick. The first flower of spring is a powerful one in Magick.  Read more

Dangerous Myths

Last updated on: March 16, 2019 at 6:52 pm   By Courtney Weber

A myth is dangerous when it points a finger, abdicates responsibility, creates a false narrative, a fake victimhood. It leaves room for someone to feel they should retaliate. The mythical rhetoric of "This is our ancestral legacy and it was taken away by THAT GROUP and must be reclaimed at all costs" is all too similar to the rhetoric that the shooter in New Zealand spouted as he live-streamed the murders. Read more

Witchcraft: It’s Uncomfortable, Inconvenient, and a Little Gross…

Last updated on: March 7, 2019 at 9:55 am   By Courtney Weber

Finally, we opened the jar of honey and turned it into our spell vehicle. We each added a few strands of hair to the honey, along with our chosen herbs. It should be lovely, right? A little piece of each of us tucked into a glass jar of real, local honey. A perfect fit for Instagram! It wasn’t. It was gross. Read more

No, John Oliver. Not All Psychics Are Frauds.

Last updated on: February 25, 2019 at 10:20 am   By Courtney Weber

Dear John Oliver, I’m Courtney. I’m a professional Tarot advisor with over twenty years’ experience. I see private clients and work for a phone psychic hotline. I published a Tarot deck and wrote a book on reading your own cards. First of all, I love your show. My husband and I watch it every week. Keep calling out truth to power, eliminating health care debt, and making fun of Gladiator. We need to laugh in these dark times. This week, you... Read more

Coming Out Of The Broom Closet: You’re Doing It Wrong

Last updated on: February 19, 2019 at 12:02 pm   By Courtney Weber

Just kidding. You probably came out of that broom closet just fine. Or maybe you’re still in that closet, which is fine, too. Or maybe you are doing it wrong? Maybe I am. Maybe we all are. Yesterday, a friend and I spoke about our levels of Witch “outness,” and whether our work as Witches should be about giving Witches a good name. I told her how I felt: Sometimes, I don’t want to be an “Out” Witch. For a good... Read more

Sorry, No. Goddess Worship Won’t Solve the World’s Problems (And it’s Kinda Sexist, Too).

Last updated on: February 12, 2019 at 11:02 am   By Courtney Weber

Goddess worship will not solve the world's problems. It's even kind of sexist. It would be easier to believe, the world will re-embrace Goddess divinity as the status quo and therefore, will offer equality to people of all genders and quit cutting down the Amazon rainforest. But that's not realistic. Read more

Book Review: The Witch’s Book of Self-Care by Arin Murphy-Hiscock

Last updated on: February 4, 2019 at 11:56 am   By Courtney Weber

This book came to me at the right time. I suck at self-care. Arin Murphy-Hiscock’s new title, The Witch’s Book of Self-Care: Magical Ways to Pamper, Soothe, and Care for your Body and Spirit  (Simon and Schuster) was exactly what I needed. When I first received the book, I first imagined it might be a sweet reminder to get to yoga more often, but it turned out to be deeper and more holistic, and fully helpful for a sad, tired Witch like me.... Read more

Brigid: She’ll Burn Your (Metaphorical) House Down

Last updated on: February 1, 2019 at 3:36 pm   By Courtney Weber

When Imbolc rolls around and I see the memes of a sweet, friendly Goddess, I chuckle. She burned my metaphorical house down. And I couldn't be more grateful. Read more

A Magickal Use for Anger

Last updated on: January 26, 2019 at 12:39 pm   By Courtney Weber

A lot of modern, spiritual practices (Witchcraft and Pagan included) focus on letting anger go. But when we rush to let go of anger, we miss out on the information it's giving us. But in talking with our anger, we can find its Magickal purpose. Read more
