“They had this miracle, and also many other miracles wrought by the power of God, day by day” (Alma 37:40).

As a people, we profess that we worship a God of miracles! The following is a childhood story of my mother, Darla Noble Bushman about a profound miracle she experienced.

Surfing in Idaho

When I was 12 years old, our family lived on a farm in Idaho where canals were used to water the fields.  Dirt roads ran alongside all the canals, so my Dad

and his brother, who had recently moved near us from California, got the brilliant idea of creating summertime water fun in this desert-like area for their two families by rigging up a surfboard thing we could ride! We’d be surfing in Idaho!

A long pole, 5 or 6 inches in diameter, was firmly attached to the back of the roof of the cab of a flatbed truck and it extended out so as to be over the canal.  A long rope tied the pole to our “magical” surfboard.  The idea was to drive the truck alongside the canal bank and pull the board and rider for a fantastically fun ride.

Eight excited children couldn’t wait for their turns and, with a few adults, sat in a line on the flatbed of the truck to watch my 15-year-old cousin Bob who got to be the first one privileged to ride the board.  What fun he was having!

So Dad drove the truck a little faster.  Then when Bob tried standing up on the surfboard, he fell off.  The board flew straight into the side of the bank.

Crack! that heavy pole snapped, flew back, and hit the person sitting on the flatbed closest to the cab right in the face!  That person was me!

Even if all Seems Lost,  Go Ahead and Pray for a Miracle!

I was knocked unconscious and didn’t wake up until the next day in the hospital with a head three times its normal size.  But miraculously, I DID wake up!  They first thought I was dead.  But I was told that fervent prayers were offered for me. And I not only woke up, but completely recovered without any permanent damage to my eye, my cheekbone, or my teeth.

I am very grateful for the faith and prayers that granted my Miracle. And my advice is this:  even if all seems lost,  Go Ahead and Pray for a Miracle!
