Second, there’s Susan, who is wrestling with rediscovering what brings her joy. After years of relationship issues, a recent major surgery and the declining health of her aging mom, she’s felt out of touch with her own creativity and sense of self.

When she emailed me the other day, she signed off not with the words “Sending love,” but with “Receiving love.”

Receiving love.

Who ends an email that way?

It was brilliant.

In those two words, she acknowledged that she’s ready to receive what she needs after giving so much of herself for so long. And that means entering a new space in herself, bringing her creativity and joy back into the equation.
