Sola Scriptura: Self-Defeating, Unworkable, Unbiblical
Last updated on: March 29, 2026 at 9:10 am By Dave Armstrong
This is an abridgment with a few minor additions and changes, of a 2003 article of mine, entitled, “Protestantism: Is it Logically Self-Defeating?” It’s my argument against sola Scriptura in a nutshell. Protestantism cannot settle its internal differences; each branch or sect can only (ultimately arbitrarily) assert its own authority. It has no way of resolving these denominational differences because sola Scriptura doesn’t allow that to happen and cannot, because it provides no remedy for the intrinsic problem of... Read more

Inspired Prophets: An Analogy to Infallible Popes
Last updated on: June 13, 2026 at 1:11 pm By Dave Armstrong
This is the transcript of the initial portion of the video, “Infallible Pope? Yes! Contra Gavin Ortlund” (Catholic Bible Highlights, with Kenny Burchard, 3-27-26). ***** Dr. Gavin Ortlund is a Reformed Baptist apologist who earned a doctorate from Fuller Theological Seminary in historical theology. He runs the very popular YouTube channel Truth Unites. Today, we’re critiquing a statement he made in his video, “Trent Horn on the Papacy REBUTTED” (4-6-21): None of the Old Testament offices had the ability to speak... Read more

100 Motown Stars: Info. & Links / My Detroit Heritage
Last updated on: March 28, 2026 at 5:26 pm By Dave Armstrong
The classic period of the Motown music era was from 1960 to 1972, when Motown founder Berry Gordy and his company left Detroit. I was born in Detroit in 1958 at the Booth Memorial Hospital of the Salvation Army (late 1890s) at 130 W. Grand Boulevard, on the same street as the Motown Studio (photo above: address: 2648), 5.5 miles away. It’s a semi-circular 12-mile road that surrounded the Detroit city limits in 1913 when it was completed. Outer Drive... Read more

Mary Queen Mother & Queen of Heaven: Biblical?
Last updated on: June 13, 2026 at 1:11 pm By Dave Armstrong
This is the initial transcript for the video, “Mary Queen of Heaven — What Protestants Get Wrong About This Catholic Title” (Catholic Bible Highlights, with Kenny Burchard, 3-20-26). ***** Evangelical Protestant theologian Kenneth J. Collins and Anglican philosopher Jerry L. Walls wrote a book called, Roman but Not Catholic: What Remains at Stake 500 Years after the Reformation (Grand Rapids, Michigan: Baker Academic, 2017). When the book came out in October 2017, I made 13 critiques of it on... Read more

Mary’s Assumption: Biblical & Patristic Data
Last updated on: June 6, 2026 at 12:11 am By Dave Armstrong
Mary’s bodily Assumption is not directly addressed in the Bible. But (as always with Catholic doctrine), there are indirect, deductive arguments from things that are made clear in the Bible, and nothing in Scripture that would contradict its possibility. We see, for example, several instances of persons being transported bodily to heaven that are analogous to Mary’s Assumption: 2 Kings 2:11 (RSV) … And Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. 2 Corinthians 12:2 I know a man in Christ [himself]... Mary’s Immaculate Conception: Ten Biblical Arguments
Last updated on: June 6, 2026 at 12:11 am By Dave Armstrong
#1 The angel Gabriel greets Mary as “Hail, full of grace” in Luke 1:28. The Greek word is kecharitomene [keh-ka-ri-toe-MEH-nay]. Baptist linguist A. T. Robertson, in his Word Pictures in the New Testament, stated that “full of grace” is a proper translation. Greek Grammar books tell us that the word means “completely, perfectly, enduringly endowed with grace.” It’s derived from the root word, charis (KHA-ris), literally “grace” — and translated that way 129 out of 150 times in the King... Anglican Sean Luke & Apologetical Canon Discussion
Last updated on: June 6, 2026 at 12:11 am By Dave Armstrong
Including a Summary of the “Historical Case” for the Deuterocanon (aka, “Apocrypha”), and Particularly, Athanasius’ Views Sean Luke obtained Masters of Divinity and Masters of Systematic Theology degrees from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He runs the YouTube channel, Anglican Aesthetics. On that site and on his Substack page he has repeatedly brought up issues regarding the biblical canon and how Catholic apologists (sometimes named, but often not) — actually or allegedly — inadequately argue for it, and critique (he thinks, inaccurately)... Venerating Mary with Heart & Soul, Etc.: Bible Analogies
Last updated on: June 13, 2026 at 1:11 pm By Dave Armstrong
Sean Luke obtained Masters of Divinity and Masters of Systematic Theology degrees from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He runs the YouTube channel, Anglican Aesthetics, where he made a video, “Roman Catholic Maryolatry – Why Roman Marian Devotion is a Problem” (5-2-24). I’d like to critique some of the claims he makes which I think are demonstrably false. Sean’s words will be in blue. ***** 4:49 I don’t think Rome is intending to include Mary in the Divine identity, but that functionally... Read more

Catholic “Wicked Married Sex”?: 4th Reply to Sean Luke
Last updated on: April 6, 2026 at 10:03 pm By Dave Armstrong
Sean Luke obtained Masters of Divinity and Masters of Systematic Theology degrees from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He runs the YouTube channel, Anglican Aesthetics, where he made a video, “This ONE Issue Debunks Roman Catholicism” (7-1-25), in which he made the gigantic claim that certain proclamations and practices of a local council in 1022 and some other related ones, brought about binding Catholic proclamations that were intrinsically evil, which in turn inexorably leads — so he argued — to...
