A Biblical Defense of Catholicism (#1; completed in May 1996; published by Lulu in Oct. 2001 and by Sophia Institute Press in June 2003, 297 pages). Foreword by Servant of God Fr. John A. Hardon, S. J. Demonstration of the unique harmony of Catholic doctrines with Holy Scripture, using a blend of catechesis and apologetics. It includes Bible passages from 229 of the 260 chapters in the New Testament. It’s one of my four bestsellers in the Catholic field and probably the most well-known of my books.

More Biblical Evidence for Catholicism (#2; published by Lulu in Feb. 2002; also Logos / Faithlife / Verbum in March 2012, 181 pages). Biblical arguments in support of distinctively Catholic doctrinal positions, with an emphasis on informality and dialogue; mostly drawn from real discussions.

Bible Conversations: Catholic-Protestant Dialogues on the Bible, Tradition, and Salvation (#3; published by Logos in June 2002; also Logos / Faithlife / Verbum in March 2012, 218 pages). Perhaps the three “hottest” topics in Catholic apologetics are dealt with in a dialogue format, from actual discussions engaged in online with Protestants.

Development of Catholic Doctrine: Evolution, Revolution, or an Organic Process? (#4; published by Lulu in June 2002; also Logos / Faithlife / Verbum in March 2012, 198 pages). Why does the Catholic Church and her doctrines appear different in many ways from the early Church? Development of doctrine is a crucial explanatory key. This was the single largest factor in my own Catholic conversion.

Mere Christian Apologetics (#5; published by Lulu in Sep. 2002, 289 pages). A work of general Christian apologetics, without Catholic “distinctives”: intended as an introductory treatment of many of the basic apologetics issues.

Christian Worldview vs. Postmodernism (#6; published by Lulu in Sep. 2002, 218 pages). Devoted to an apologetic of general Christianity, over against secularism, agnosticism, and atheism; demonstrating that Christianity is rational and plausible.

The Catholic Answer Bible (#7; published by Our Sunday Visitor — the largest Catholic publisher — in September 2002). I wrote all of the apologetic commentary: 44 “inserts” on various topics. The link includes these inserts only. Each devotes one page to common apologetics issues, with explanation, and Scripture and Catechism passages. In April 2005 it was revised as The New Catholic Answer Bible, with 44 additional articles and expansion of mine, by Dr. Paul Thigpen. In March 2011 it was released with the revised NAB text. The latter version is one of my four bestselling books in the field, and both have an Imprimatur (from different people).

Family Matters: Catholic Theology of the Family (#8; published by Lulu in Dec. 2002, 159 pages). Catholic and biblical analyses of the family-related issues of abortion, contraception, extramarital sex, divorce, homosexuality, and radical feminism.

Reflections on Radical Catholic Reactionaries (#9; published by Lulu in Dec. 2002; rev. Aug. 2013, 145 pages). Critique of “traditions of men falsely made out to be the only proper traditions of the Church”: the faulty and erroneous use of dogma and private judgment.

Protestantism: Critical Reflections of an Ecumenical Catholic (#10; published by Lulu in May 2003, 188 pages). Multi-faceted commentary on the various flaws and errors of Protestantism, in the style of Pascals Pensees: i.e., categorized brief thoughts or sayings.

Twin Scourges: Thoughts on Anti-Catholicism & Theological Liberalism (#11; published by Lulu in June 2003, 167 pages). Critique of two very serious errors: that Catholicism is not truly Christian, and that one can pick and choose or modify Catholic doctrines as they so choose.

Orthodoxy and Catholicism: A Comparison (#12; published by Lulu in July 2004; 3rd edition: heavily revised in July 2015, with co-author, Byzantine Catholic priest, Fr. Daniel Dozier; the latter was also published by Logos / Faithlife / Verbum in January 2018, 335 pages). Examination of key differences between Catholicism and Orthodoxy (especially in its anti-Catholic form), due largely to the split in the eleventh century.

The Catholic Verses: 95 Bible Passages That Confound Protestants (#13; published by Sophia Institute Press in August 2004, 235 pages). A critical look at how Protestant apologists deal with (or rather, try to dismiss) Bible passages used by Catholics in defense of doctrines that Protestants reject. One of my four bestselling books in the field.

The One-Minute Apologist: Essential Catholic Replies to Over Sixty Common Protestant Claims (#14; published by Sophia Institute Press in May 2007, 143 pages). Two-page standardized treatments of sixty-one major issues that divide Protestants and Catholics; somewhat like the format of St. Thomas Aquinas in his Summa Theologica. One of my four bestselling books in the field.

Catholic Church Fathers: Patristic and Scholarly Proofs (#15; published by Lulu in Nov. 2007, 284 pages). Collection of writings from the Church fathers that exhibit support of distinctively Catholic doctrines and rejection of distinctively Protestant ones.

Martin Luther: Catholic Critical Analysis and Praise (#16; published by Lulu in April 2008; also Logos / Faithlife / Verbum in March 2012, 264 pages). Examination of the founder of Protestantism and critique of errors in his thinking; also includes a lengthy section enumerating many areas of agreement with Catholicism.

The Wisdom of Mr. Chesterton: The Very Best Quotes, Quips, and Cracks from the Pen of G. K. Chesterton (#17; Oct. 2008; published by Saint Benedict Press / TAN Books in Dec. 2009, 265 pages). Collection of quotations from the great writer who is widely considered the preeminent Christian and Catholic apologist in the first third of the 20th century.

Bible Proofs for Catholic Truths: A Source Book for Apologists and Inquirers (#18; published by Sophia Institute Press in August 2009, 445 pages). Now available for free on my blog (in RSV rather than the original KJV). 2,051 Bible verses presented in their entirety and specifically categorized in order to provide abundant biblical support for various Catholic doctrines.

Biblical Catholic Answers for John Calvin (#19; published by Lulu in March 2010; also Logos / Faithlife / Verbum in March 2012, 388 pages). Point-by-point critical analysis of Book IV of John Calvin’s magnum opus, Institutes of the Christian Religion. Includes a section of areas of agreement.

“The Catholic Mary”: Quite Contrary to the Bible? (#20; published by Lulu in Sep. 2010; also Logos / Faithlife / Verbum in March 2012, 189 pages). Devoted to demonstrating the abundance of biblical support for the many areas of Catholic Mariology that are considered “unbiblical” and “controversial.”

Science and Christianity: Close Partners or Mortal Enemies? (#21; published by Lulu in Oct. 2010, 301 pages). Christianity and science are shown to be entirely compatible, by means of massive linking to Wikipedia science articles and biographical treatment of great scientists.

Biblical Catholic Salvation: “Faith Working Through Love” (#22; published by Lulu in Oct. 2010; also Logos / Faithlife / Verbum in March 2012, 187 pages). The theology of salvation from a Catholic perspective, overwhelmingly emphasizing biblical arguments. Includes 100+ pages critiquing the Calvinist TULIP.

Biblical Catholic Eucharistic Theology (#23; published by Lulu in Feb. 2011; also Logos / Faithlife / Verbum in March 2012, 222 pages). A treatment of many important aspects of Catholic beliefs regarding the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist, with strong emphasis on biblical argumentation.

The Quotable Newman: A Definitive Guide to His Central Thoughts and Ideas (#24; completed in Aug. 2011; published by Sophia Institute Press in Oct. 2012, 415 pages). Collection of quotations from this giant of 19th century Christianity: a brilliant thinker, preacher, apologist, teacher, famous convert to Catholicism, saint, and Doctor of the Church.

100 Biblical Arguments Against Sola Scriptura (#25; published by Catholic Answers Press in May 2012 and in a slightly revised and reformatted 2nd edition by Bridge Builders Press in August 2025; also by Logos / Faithlife / Verbum as part of its 21-volume Catholic Answers Collection, 137 pages). It’s all summed-up in one “powerhouse” of relentless biblical critique of one of the “pillars of the Reformation”: that amazingly lacks any biblical support.

Classic Catholic Biblical Apologetics: 1525-1925 (#26; published by Lulu in Feb. 2012, 246 pages). Arguments from twelve great apologists: More, Erasmus, Suárez, Francis de Sales, Bossuet, Pascal, Wiseman, Ullathorne, Benson, Gibbons, Prat, and Adam.

Biblical Evidence for the Communion of Saints (#27; published by Lulu in Feb. 2012; also Logos / Faithlife / Verbum in March 2012, 152 pages). Biblical arguments garnered in support of invocation, intercession, and veneration of saints, images, relics, purgatory, prayer for the dead, and penance.

Biblical Proofs for an Infallible Church and Papacy (#28; published by Lulu in March 2012, 150 pages). The controversial beliefs of papal primacy, headship, and infallibility, are examined in-depth from Scripture, showing their complete harmony with the Bible.

The Quotable Wesley (#29, completed in May 2012; published by The Foundry Publishing [at that time called Beacon Hill Press], a Wesleyan publisher, in April 2014, 288 pages). Quotations from the wise and spiritual Anglican founder of Methodism, and zealous Christian reformer and evangelist; many affinities with Catholicism.

Beatles, Motown, Beach Boys, Etc.: Classic Rock Discographies, Commentary, and Mono vs. Stereo Analysis (#30; published by Lulu in May 2012, 213 pages). A fun non-theological book that delves into various aspects of classic rock music, especially the Beatles and Beach Boys and their remastered songs.

Pillars of Sola Scriptura: Replies to Whitaker, Goode, & Biblical “Proofs” for “Bible Alone” (#31; published by Lulu in July 2012, 310 pages). Critical analysis of the biblical arguments(or lack thereof) in favor of “sola Scriptura” from the two men who are considered its very best historical defenders.

The Quotable Augustine: Distinctively Catholic Elements in His Theology (#32; published by Lulu in Sep. 2012, 245 pages). Quotations from St. Augustine: widely considered the greatest Church father, and often claimed as the direct forerunner of Reformed Protestantism.

A Biblical Critique of Calvinism (#33; published by Lulu in Oct. 2012, 178 pages). Critical analysis of various questionable aspects of Calvinist or “Reformed” theology, including many lengthy replies to Books I-III of Calvin’s Institutes of the Christian Religion.

Theology of God: Biblical, Chalcedonian Trinitarianism and Christology (#34; published by Lulu in Nov. 2012, 156 pages). Thorough presentation of biblical arguments in favor of trinitarianism, the divinity or deity of Christ, and classic orthodox theism. Bible verses in their entirety.

Mass Movements: Radical Catholic Reactionaries, the New Mass, and Ecumenism (#35; published by Lulu in Dec. 2012; rev. Aug. 2013, 205 pages). A look at dubious beliefs on the extreme “right” of the Catholic theological spectrum, and why its “quasi-schismatic”, pharisaical, rigorist views are wrong.

The Quotable Summa Theologica (#36; published by Lulu in Jan. 2013, 200 pages). A helpful alphabetical summary of the theological ideas and arguments of St. Thomas Aquinas’ masterwork, designed to make his thought more accessible.

Biblical Catholic Apologetics: A Collection of Essays (#37; published by Lulu in March 2013, 236 pages). Selection of some of the best Dave Armstrong’s numerous theological and apologetic arguments, on a wide variety of issues: always emphasizing the Bible.

Catholic Converts and Conversion (#38; published by Lulu in April 2013, 237 pages). Many aspects of the journey to Catholicism examined, conversion stories, and the most extensive account of Dave Armstrong’s own conversion (75 pages).

The Quotable Eastern Church Fathers (#39; published by Lulu in July 2013, 303 pages). Writings of eight Church Doctors: Basil, John Chrysostom, Gregory Nazianzen, Athanasius, Cyril of Alexandria, Ephraim, Cyril of Jerusalem, & John Damascene.

The Quotable Newman, Vol. II (#40; published by Lulu in Aug. 2013, 290 pages). Quotes on a wide variety of topics from the 19th century Churchman, saint, and Doctor of the Church, with emphasis on his personal letters, and lesser-known topics.

Revelation! 1001 Bible Answers to Theological Topics (#41; published by Lulu in Oct. 2013, 250 pages). A “biblical catechism.” The idea is simple but unique: 1001 questions are “answered” with a Bible passage: with 18 broad categories and 200 sub-topics.

Debating James White: Shocking Failures of the “Undefeatable” Anti-Catholic Champion (#42; published by Lulu in Nov. 2013, 395 pages). A series of critical in-depth analyses and debates with the leading anti-Catholic apologist today (especially online): the Reformed Baptist James White.

Pope Francis Explained: Survey of Myths, Legends, and Catholic Defenses in Harmony with Tradition (#43; published by Lulu in Jan. 2014, 127 pages). A look at how the media frequently misrepresents the pope as a supposed dissenter, and how Catholics on the far right are also unnecessarily suspicious.

Quotable Catholic Mystics and Contemplatives (#44; published by Lulu in April 2014, 304 pages). Compiled from fourteen classic Catholic mystics and contemplatives or works, drawn from 22 books, compiled under 215 categories, chronologically by date.

Victorian King James Version of the New Testament (#45; published by Lulu in July 2014, 590 pages). A “selection” of the entire New Testament, compiled and edited  from two Elizabethan era Bibles (KJV / Rheims), and four British Victorian-era versions (Moffatt / 20th Century / Young’s Literal / Weymouth).

Proving the Catholic Faith is Biblical: 80 Short Essays Explaining the Biblical Basis of Catholicism (#46; completed in August 2014; published in July 2015 by Sophia Institute Press, 288 pages). Collection of usually 2-3 page-long articles on 14 broad apologetics topics; many drawn from published articles with Seton Magazine and The Michigan Catholic.

Footsteps that Echo Forever: My Holy Land Pilgrimage (#47; published by Lulu in November 2014, 165 pages). A spiritual journey to Israel recounted, with descriptions of holy sites, survey of some recent exciting discoveries of biblical archaeology, and biblical exposition.

Collection of Luther statements that Catholics would agree with. Nine broad sections and 113 individual categories, arranged chronologically within each category.

Cardinal Newman: Q & A in Theology, Church History, and Conversion (#49; published by Lulu in May 2015, 367 pages). Almost a “systematic theology” from Doctor of the Church, St. Cardinal Newman, by use of many topical categories. Of particular usefulness for possible converts, as well as “uncertain” Catholics.

*

The Bible Tells Me So: A Catholic Apologist Challenges Protestants with Scripture (#50; 2nd expanded edition was published in January 2019 by Chorabooks, 155 pages). I demonstrate in 30 chapters that sola Scriptura, the Catholic rule of faith, is logically circular and fatally weak, and never believed by the Church fathers.

*

The Word Set in Stone: How Archaeology, Science, and History Back Up the Bible (#51; published on 15 March 2023 by Catholic Answers Press, 271 pages). I deal with specific objective matters in relation to the text of the Bible that can be addressed by archaeology or other forms of science, starting with premises that Christians and non-Christians accept in common. I sought to “defeat the defeaters” offered up by biblical skeptics, anti-theist atheists (who specialize in and constantly focus on criticizing the Bible, Christians, Christianity), and archaeological minimalists.

*

The Word Set in Stone: “Volume Two”: More Evidence of Archaeology, Science, and History Backing Up the Bible (#52; available for free on my blog: 163 sections as of this writing; first presented on 25 May 2023, with future additions to be added as new material is discovered). I continue the theme of the first volume, addressing many additional biblical topics.

*

Inspired!: 198 Supposed Biblical Contradictions Resolved (#53; available for free on my blog, completed on 3 June 2023, 140 pages). My solutions or resolutions in this book came about and were stimulated as a result of direct challenges from atheists. The material found herein is entirely of that nature: based on becoming familiar with a charge made by an atheist and then responding to it with a rebuttal.

*

Justification: A Catholic Perspective (#54; available for free on my blog, completed on 30 August 2023). Debate with co-author Brazilian Calvinist Francisco Tourinho, who was a worthy opponent and earned my respect. It was a pleasure to interact with him. He stated that I “debated well” and “used good arguments on several occasions,” and “confirmed” myself as “an excellent apologist”. We covered the topic very extensively, with hundreds of Bible passages considered and debated. Perfect for anyone who wonders who possesses the fuller and more biblical truth in this regard: Catholics or Calvinists. Read both sides from passionate advocates of each!

*

God of Love, Fire & Light: A Biblical Defense of Purgatory (#55: co-written with Kenny Burchard): published on 21 November 2024 by Bridge Builders Press, 140 pages). This book is our way of sharing how we came to love and appreciate this doctrine; drawing heavily from Scripture and also from illuminating Catholic magisterial sources. We aim to dispel myths and build understanding, offering readers a fresh vision of purgatory as a true gift of God’s mercy.

*

Catholicism Explained (#56; free online six-volume “book” available for free on my blog, consisting of 348 1000-word articles written for the National Catholic Register for almost nine years, from 29 September 2016 through to June 2025. It’s enough material for six 203-page volumes or more than 1218 pages total! This is in effect a complete, in-depth catechetical and apologetical explanation of the Catholic faith, or a sort of encyclopedia, written not for scholars but rather, for the common man seeking to better understand the Catholic faith and the rationales for why we believe what we believe.

Perhaps some of my 5,000+ free online articles or fifty-six books have helped you (by God’s grace) to decide to become a Catholic or to return to the Catholic Church, or better understand some doctrines and why Catholics believe them. If you believe my full-time apostolate is worth supporting, please seriously consider a much-needed monthly or one-time financial contribution. “The laborer is worthy of his wages” (1 Tim 5:18, NKJV).
