It’s increasingly likely that the major-party presidential choice in 2020 will come down to Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders. I could not possibly be more thrilled to realize that, after all of the expensive sifting of candidates during this round, these are the two best that our republic can propose out of a population of roughly 330 million people.

My low esteem for Mr. Trump, despite the admirable judicial appointments of his administration and despite other policies that I can applaud, is on public record.

But please permit me to share a few links about the execrable Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT):

Donald Trump or Bernie Sanders? Oy veh. I’ve never, ever, voted for a Democrat in a partisan political race. Had the Democrats shown any capacity to nominate a reasonable presidential candidate for 2020, however, I might perhaps possibly have considered maybe doing it in November. (And probably, in the end, would not have done so. I am, after all, a serious conservative.) But their overall field of candidates has been profoundly disappointing, and the rise of Bernie Sanders is nothing short of catastrophic.

I find myself in strong sympathy with this piece by Bernard Goldberg from a couple of days ago: “I’ll sit out this presidential election because of the yahoos running”

But good grief. We’re about to have an avowed socialist — it’s his choice of words — as a major-party presidential nominee?
