The Saratoga Springs Utah Temple, soon to be built

The architect’s rendering of the Saratoga Springs Utah Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for which ground will be broken shortly, has just been released.  (I use the image under the terms stated at LDS.org)

I’m quite excited about this.  From the description, it may perhaps be the first and only temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that I’ll be able to see from my front yard, as it will be near the northwest shore of Utah Lake:

“Saratoga Springs Temple Groundbreaking Date Announced”

“We completed a temple in Kirtland and in Nauvoo; and did we not hear the bells of hell toll at the time we were building them? They did, every week and every day. . . .  Do not pay tithing, unless you want to; do not help to build this temple unless you want to; do not put forth your hands to one day’s work, unless you want to. . . .  If you grudgingly put forth your means to help to gather the Saints, it will be a curse to you; it will mildew, and every effort you make will wither in your possession . . . if you wish this Temple built, go to work and do all you can this season. Some say, “I do not like to do it, for we never began to build a Temple without the bells of hell begining to ring.” I want to hear them ring again.

(Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses 8:355-356)

This should be quite fun:

“Church to Celebrate President Nelson’s 95th Birthday and Life of Christlike Service: Event featuring Tabernacle Choir and guests to be streamed live”

My wife and I, being out of town and on the road at the time (what a surprise!), missed the chance to get tickets for tonight’s party, but kind friends secured some for us anyway.  So we’re headed up shortly to Salt Lake City with a group of friends, where we’ll meet still other friends for dinner and then head over to the Conference Center.  I’m looking forward to the event.

However, even if you yourself lack tickets (or aren’t anywhere near Utah’s Wasatch Front) you can still listen and watch, as explained above.

In the meantime, here are four items from the new Pearl of Great Price Central site for your enjoyment:

“Human Sacrifice”

“The Plain of Olishem”

“Ur of the Chaldees”

“Did Abraham Lie About His Wife Sarai?”
