Indiana's first temple

The Indianapolis Indiana Temple    (LDS Media Library)

Last night, we attended a session in the still relatively new Indianapolis Indiana Temple with the local friends who are hosting us here.  (He is one of the temple recorders.)

I have to say that the temple is more beautiful than photos of it had led me to expect.  And the interior is very, very lovely.

I hope that the estimable Ed Gantt won’t mind my quoting a very good point that he made the other day in an entry on Facebook:

I was just remembering the hullabaloo that broke out some months ago when Vice President Mike Pence stated that he didn’t go to dinner alone with any woman but his wife. I recall how many on the Left (and even some on the Right) derided and mocked his personal policy, claiming that it was condescending to women, old-fashioned, and moderately sexist. I wonder now, however, if those who criticized Pence for his “Victorian morality” knew their daughter was going to start a new job would rather she worked for Harvey Weinstein or Mike Pence…

***

Here’s a response to the Weinstein case that I think rather thought-provoking:

“How the teachings of Islam could help us prevent more sexual abuse scandal”

***

Good grief.  We’re starting to get into territory where even such extreme phenomena as Mormon standards, and even BYU’s much maligned Honor Code, begin to look as if they don’t actually express hatred of women.  Heck, there’s even an explicit reference to BYU in the first of these three articles:

“College Women: Stop Getting Drunk: It’s closely associated with sexual assault. And yet we’re reluctant to tell women to stop doing it.”

“Mayim Bialik: Being a Feminist in Harvey Weinstein’s World”

“Mayim Bialik Is Right, Modesty Is Prudent”

“It’s Past Time to Rethink Modern Sexual Morality”

***

Here’s a good (and relevant) interview with Princeton’s Robert P. George:

“Marriage – Can We Have Justice Without It?”

The Church seems to think that marriage and family are rather important . . .

On a quite different topic, some of you will find this interesting:

“Answering the CES Letter # 10”

I was really busy yesterday, and I’m behind on blogging.  But don’t worry.  Interpreter didn’t miss a day of publication yesterday.  We’ve never missed a day of publication.  (It might happen someday.  Probably it will.  But, in about 280 weeks, it never has to this point.)  My tardiness on this blog notwithstanding, the latest article went up right on schedule:

“Should We Apologize for Apologetics?”

Enjoy!

And you also might enjoy this wonderful piece by BYU’s female a cappella group, Noteworthy:

“Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)”
