Christmas for Forgotten Angels Though Clarence Adams didn’t know much about homelessness when he got a job as a counselor at a New Orleans, Louisiana, homeless shelter 17 years ago, he was especially moved by the plight of the children he saw there.

As Christmas drew near, he felt even more sorry for them because all they would have to look forward to is Christmas dinner in the shelter with hundreds of strangers.  As reported by Voice of America news, Adams commented to a friend that if he ever got rich, he would have a big party for homeless children.  His friend told him he didn’t have to be rich; he could do something right away.

Though it involved a lot of work, Adams created the shelter’s first Christmas for Forgotten Angels party.  There was fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, dessert, and toys from Santa.

Adams recalls, “Seeing the faces on these kids, having them come up and give me a hug and say ‘Thank you,’ to see how much joy this brought to these children who would otherwise have nothing—I determined I had to do this every year.”

You don’t have to be rich to bring joy to someone in need.

Make [these] days of feasting and gladness.

(Esther 9:22)
