Mark Shea swings

Last updated on: October 31, 2016 at 11:28 am   By Dave Griffey

And hits!  It’s going, it’s going…it’s Gone!  Home Run Mr. Shea.  I’m not able to comment on his site, but if I could, I’d say this is one of the best summaries I’ve read recently of God’s mercy toward us sinners and why it is imperative we be prepared to forgive rather than begrudge.  It’s a lesson I never tire of learning because it’s a lesson I so often forget.   And what better day than Halloween to be reminded. Read more

For our Protestant brothers and sisters

Last updated on: October 31, 2016 at 11:08 am   By Dave Griffey

A little hopeful nod about the Reformation then and now.  Count me as one who thinks bringing unity back to the Church should be a major goal for all believers.  I stop short of saying anything that brings unity is good because, let’s face it, some attempts to bring unity could be quite bad.  But a step toward unity, however small, can still be hoped for.  One of the greatest stains on the Christian witness has been the manifold layers of... Read more

Political loyalty illustrated

Last updated on: October 31, 2016 at 6:51 am   By Dave Griffey

Right now the Democrats, as well as the media, are on overdrive trying to get some resolution from the FBI email story.  In addition to the expected turn of support for James Comey, in which former detractors are now his biggest fans, and those who declared him the man of the year are saying  he’s now violated ethics and should resign, we have the attempt to run after every possible distraction by the press.   Polls are crucial here, and the initial polling... Read more

The Martians are coming!

Last updated on: October 30, 2016 at 7:05 pm   By Dave Griffey

Or so they said on October 30, 1938.  Everyone knows the story of Orson Welles and his famous War of the Worlds broadcast.  We also know about our country of gullible bumpkins going into a tailspin panic over the faux news cast.  And yet, we might be a little off about how widespread the panic was.  I think by now most of us know that the legendary ‘nationwide panic’ was an overstated story that continued long after Welles and company... Read more

I have been remiss in my duties

Last updated on: October 29, 2016 at 8:18 am   By Dave Griffey

Last night I was watching the Indians steal a little happiness from Cubs fans, eating roasted pumpkin seeds and drinking apple cider, when I suddenly remembered something. I realized that it is almost Halloween and I forgot to send out a happy birthday to good old Charlie Brown.  The debut of his Halloween special and my year of birth are the same.   So as it turns 50 this year, I’ll do the same in a couple months.  Some say... Read more

FBI reopens investigation into Clinton emails

Last updated on: October 28, 2016 at 2:00 pm   By Dave Griffey

Eh.  At this point I think anything short of a video tape of Hillary axe murdering a children’s choir isn’t going to matter.  When the alternative is Trump, there’s not much that will change things over.  Nonetheless, I’ve said before it’s a testimony to her awfulness as a candidate that she isn’t 30 points ahead.  I mean, this is Trump.  Donald Trump.  And yet, even now, the press must cheer that she at ahead in the polls, yet barely over double... Read more

Go Nat Geo

Last updated on: October 28, 2016 at 12:07 am   By Dave Griffey

National Geographic does its usual quality work covering the ongoing restoration of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.  A little reminder to us believers that for all the sound and fury of our current age, we are just little people who are part of something far more ancient.  There’s something about being part of a tradition that has customs predating the birth of European civilization, while all around us our culture grabs onto fads that have all the staying power... Read more

Foolishness

Last updated on: October 28, 2016 at 7:54 am   By Dave Griffey

Can look different in hindsight.  Remember in 2012 when President Obama mocked Mitt Romney during a debate for suggesting we should be concerned about Russia as a geopolitical threat?  Yeah.  We can put that right up there with other recent observations from our leaders, such as Mission Accomplished and Junior Varsity. Read more

Attention Daily Kos

Last updated on: October 27, 2016 at 7:43 pm   By Dave Griffey

We have this little tradition in our country called innocent until proven guilty.  Personally I have no opinion about Justice Thomas one way or another.  Apparently a woman has said he groped her in 1999.  That’s all.  Now it’s time to do what works best, and that’s investigate and, if the evidence suggests, take the issue to trial.  Then we’ll see. Of course us laypeople outside of the courtroom can convict in our own minds all we want, we don’t have... Read more
