Apparently size matters for the press

Last updated on: January 23, 2017 at 6:14 am   By Dave Griffey

And Trump.  So memes quickly flew that said the crowd for Trump was smaller than the crowd for Obama.  Initially the first photos were suspect, using early morning crowd picks for Trump and comparing them to the peak of Obama’s speech.  Nonetheless, once the smoke cleared, and later photos emerged, the crowds for Trump were clearly smaller than those for Obama.  Especially Obama’s first inauguration. Which means nothing.  There are so many variables and factors to consider with such things... Read more

The lesson Trump opponents refuse to learn

Last updated on: January 22, 2017 at 2:58 pm   By Dave Griffey

Here.  There is nothing in this piece that is wrong.  Everything in this is true. There is nothing in the piece that didn’t happen or wasn’t said. If people don’t fess up and change tactics (and the marches yesterday did little to suggest they will), then a two term Trump presidency will be based on what Trump wants, not on what his opposition wants. Read more

Friends don’t let celebrities attend Women’s Marches

Last updated on: January 21, 2017 at 9:43 pm   By Dave Griffey

Madonna becomes a lightning rod for those who want to distract from the Women’s March.  And rightly so.  Once again we see that side of the left that is fine with everything and more that Trump stands for, as long as it’s aimed at the right people.  Thinking of blowing up the White House?  Tsk, tsk, tsk. What I would like to know is how many conservative women attended the march.  How many conservatives in general.  In other words, was... Read more

Some good news on days like these

Last updated on: January 21, 2017 at 2:19 pm   By Dave Griffey

Is always nice.  I love stories like this.  Absolutely nothing to do with what everyone is talking about.  But awesome nonetheless.  And not just discount coupons for Donatos pizza awesome.  I mean awesome.  Anything that helps shed light on the past is worth its weight. To think there are things like this out there that we’ve yet to discover.  Sometimes it’s nice to remember the world isn’t always as small as the song suggests.  Sometimes it’s worth remembering that it’s... Read more

Why Trump won

Last updated on: January 20, 2017 at 9:30 pm   By Dave Griffey

There is no video in existence that explains it better than this: Caution: If you can get through the sneering contempt, bigotry, ignorance and hatred, you’ll notice much, much bad language. Which reminds us of the great hypocrisy of our time.  It wasn’t that Trump is a foul mouthed jerk who treated people like dirt that was the problem.  For some, apparently, it’s that he was a foul mouthed jerk who treated the wrong people like dirt that was the problem. Will... Read more

That’s peaceful transfer of power

Last updated on: January 20, 2017 at 8:46 pm   By Dave Griffey

With respect to those interviewed who excuse or defend the violence, I personally like the tradition of peacefully transferring power in the US. Let’s keep it just in case someone we actually want wins the next election. Does this prove anything about the Left? No.  But it, along with the last two months, effectively refutes the notion that the Right has a monopoly on the violent, hateful, intolerant and stupid. Read more

Pope Francis to Donald Trump

Last updated on: January 20, 2017 at 5:25 pm   By Dave Griffey

Really, the actual message that he sent.  Not some old message Pope Francis gave that is pulled out of the air and applied as we see fit. It’s a good message, and one that should be the model for believers.  That is, if we’re serious about not being partisans one way or another. Read more

The full text of Trump’s inaugural speech

Last updated on: January 20, 2017 at 5:13 pm   By Dave Griffey

Here.  FWIW.  I’m sure there will be snippets and carefully reproduced sections in order to paint Trump as we wish.  Best to read the entire speech.  Then take it for what it is. Read more

An American Christian in the age of Trump

Last updated on: January 20, 2017 at 7:01 am   By Dave Griffey

The age of Trump.  Wow.  Never thought I would write that.  Or say it.  Or think it.  But there you go.  I’m not much of a predictor of future events.  The rare times I do it’s because I’ve cheated and based my guess on clear and obvious track records.  But then I assumed the Cubs would lose.  So even that doesn’t always work. Now we’re at it, the Trump administration.  Donald J. Trump.  Captain Avarice.  Floundering billionaire ex-superstar.  Reality TV... Read more
