Troubles with the Internet today

Last updated on: February 5, 2016 at 10:16 am   By Dave Griffey

For some reason, everything keeps freezing up.  Don’t know why.  I appreciate the visits and the comments.   Hopefully it will be back and running today or tomorrow.  But for now, enjoy this clip from the early days of my blog.  It was one of my boys’ favorites, and they loved reciting it.  It’s a strange routine, made all the stranger by three teenage girls:  Read more

And tosses a splash of cold water in the face when we consider what is at stake.  For those who have written off the United States, it’s no big deal.  But for those who still cling to the idea that we can salvage the nation before it’s too late, it’s worth a read.  Read more

Because education is all about learning

Last updated on: February 5, 2016 at 5:00 am   By Dave Griffey

Or at least censorship and brainwashing.  I have no problem letting any number of people come to a campus to speak.  I probably wouldn’t agree with anyone on everything.  There would be some people I disagree with entirely.  And some might make me so mad I have to hold my breath to avoid screaming out at them.  And yet, I want them to be there.  To challenge me.  To make me think.  To force me to reexamine what I believe... Read more

Who is concerned?

Last updated on: February 4, 2016 at 4:00 pm   By Dave Griffey

I haven’t heard anyone outside of certain media outlets and a few pro-abortion groups express concern that condoms must be allowed by the Church if we are going to save the planet from Zika.  You can almost feel the sensation: The media smells blood, and it is swarming to the Church in light of the Zika outbreak.  We don’t even know much more than sex is linked to one case, and so could possibly bring about more cases.  That’s it. ... Read more

Obama either lies

Last updated on: February 4, 2016 at 11:40 am   By Dave Griffey

Or is ignorant.  Either way, he just threw the suffering and oppression of millions of Christians for countless centuries under the bus.  So he went to a mosque.  So the imam may have said things that condone certain acts of terrorism.  So what?  Obama is liberal and in the comp studies approach to religion, one is as good as another. But Islam does not just mean peace.  It means submission, too.  It’s a more complex term than either/or.  Simply dropping... Read more

The American Catholic is hilarious

Donald McClarey tries to convince me that Jimmy Carter would pick Trump over Cruz.  No, wait.  It’s real!  That’s right, Jimmy Carter said he would prefer Trump over Cruz.  Personally, I think it’s a dig on Cruz.  I mean, the man is disliked by just about everyone. I’m reminded of a special I saw on PBS some years ago.  It was about the fall of Communism.  Going against the grain of liberal scholarship, it actually allowed for the possibility that... Read more

The Left and the Parable of the Two Sons

Last updated on: February 4, 2016 at 11:02 am   By Dave Griffey

I’m sorry, but it’s still a fact.  Americans are among the most generous people on the planet.  Again.  As in almost every case in every year.  This is individual generosity by the way.  And in America, religious people seem to be more giving than non-religious people.  And some argue that more conservative leaning individuals tend toward a more generous spirit than liberals. I’m sure the stats can be fought over.  I’m sure they will be.  The great thing about statistics... Read more

The Left uses Zika to attack the Catholic Church

Last updated on: February 4, 2016 at 9:50 am   By Dave Griffey

Like AIDS before it, the Left is seizing on the latest pandemic, Zika, to attack the Church’s position on birth control.  Now I’ve seen multiple individuals from the CDC interviewed who have assured us that sex is not the primary concern.  So far, there is one confirmed case where Zika was transmitted sexually.  While that means there could be more cases resulting from sex, transmission by mosquito is still the biggest concern. Never ones to let facts and reality get... Read more

Apparently Pope Francis made some folks mad

Last updated on: February 3, 2016 at 4:23 pm   By Dave Griffey

When he spoke about China.  I figured there would be some kerfuffle over it all.  The biggest problem, of course, was his not calling China out on the carpet over its deplorable human rights record.  I know, I know.  Liberals will immediately fire back with the millions we’ve killed in the Middle East, the millions of American Muslims living in fear of rampant Islamaphobia, and for good measure will remind us of the slaughter of Native Americans, slavery, Japanese interment... Read more

What do we expect?

Last updated on: February 3, 2016 at 3:55 pm   By Dave Griffey

I’m the first one to be suspicious of these man on the street videos.  And yet, why should I be surprised at the results?  One commenter mentions a Huffington Post story about respondents at a university not knowing that George Washington was the general at Yorktown.  Why would they?  My boys’ history texts in high school didn’t mention it.  Unless the teacher pointed it out, it wasn’t there. Likewise, my boys’ American History textbook in sixth grade barely mentioned the... Read more
