Why would anyone be surprised?

Last updated on: February 19, 2016 at 9:56 am   By Dave Griffey

The courts have ruled against EWTN regarding the HHS mandate.  Yeah, that HHS mandate.  Remember when the Bishops nearly declared holy war against that?  Protests were formed.  Promises of resistance were made. Bishops required every parish priest to read a condemnation of the mandate one Sunday.  Our priest at the time, who was not exactly right of center, did so reluctantly.  He all but apologized.  He read it quickly.  He visibly took it and put it under a stack of papers.  And... Read more

Life in the Empire of Lies

Last updated on: February 19, 2016 at 6:30 am   By Dave Griffey

John C. Wright draws a distinction between the Truth and the Empire of Lies that is founded upon heresy and must lean on lies and falsehoods (and sometimes, rank stupidity) in order to advance itself.  As usual, it’s worth the read. Read more

How to be a post-modern Catholic

Last updated on: February 18, 2016 at 1:47 pm   By Dave Griffey

Easy.  You follow the post-modern way of declaring things to be yesterday’s truth. So Mark Shea is absolutely beaming at Pope Francis’s remarks about Trump. True, the media is now reframing the story and suggesting that perhaps Pope Francis didn’t really mean Trump is not a Christian.  Perhaps.  I’ll leave up my last post simply because the Pope’s reaction, no matter how you parse it, stands in stark contrast to his reaction to previous questions about abortion and homosexuality. But Mark Shea... Read more

What does Pope Francis consider a Christian to be?

Last updated on: February 18, 2016 at 12:51 pm   By Dave Griffey

Apparently one who doesn’t disagree with him on immigration.  Not that I support Trump’s foolish proposals or gut-wrenching rhetoric.  But not a Christian?  Really Pope Francis?  This is what it takes for you to step out and judge someone’s Christian identity?  Then how about pro-choice Catholics like Nancy Pelosi?  What about gay marriage advocates and promoters of the sex and drugs culture in the age of 30 million dead from AIDS?  How about someone famous who makes it clear that the... Read more

An example of homosexual tolerance

Last updated on: February 18, 2016 at 11:00 am   By Dave Griffey

Manny Pacquiao, who is a boxing champion who I know little about, has created a firestorm.  How do you create a firestorm in an enlightened and tolerant society where we need to accept different points of view, even if it offends us?  Easy.  He criticized homosexuality. So Mr. Pacquiao pulled a bit of a double switch by using an argument close to one used by Gay Rights Activists.  He suggested that homosexuality lowers man to below animal status since animals... Read more

I will still buy Girl Scout cookies

Last updated on: February 18, 2016 at 6:00 am   By Dave Griffey

Because they are so darn good.  Though in all honesty, the boxes seem smaller and the prices a whole lot higher.  Still, giving up the Thin Mints is a sacrifice I’m not prepared to make.  Otherwise, the Hell with them.  Unlike the Boy Scouts who were attacked, assaulted, bludgeoned, beaten, threatened, and reviled in the name of liberal tolerance and diversity, the Girl Scouts appear to have willingly jumped into bed with the Secular Left.  When you could do so... Read more

We’re saved

Last updated on: February 18, 2016 at 6:00 am   By Dave Griffey

Eh.  Cruz overtakes Trump.  For the life of me, I’ve never seen a party work harder at not winning an election. Cruz puts me in mind of Nixon, 2016.  His very personality seems off-putting at best.  Perhaps he’s a great guy in person.  I’ve read some who have met him and say he’s really down to earth and easy to get along with.  I’m sure Anthony Hopkins is really a nice guy who didn’t dismember people and eat their livers with fava... Read more

It is starting to look like a Mediterranean theater of the Cold War. There’s only one difference.  The original Cold War was a conflict between the USSR and the USA.  This one is merely the USA watching any world power and every world power do pretty much as they see fit.  Remember, a growing number of youngster Americans who don’t remember when Howdy Doody was prime time TV, don’t really think America is that good.  We’re not the good guys.  In... Read more
