Why do Christians follow Trump

Last updated on: February 20, 2016 at 6:30 am   By Dave Griffey

The Imaginative Conservative has a look at the phenomenon.  It’s a balanced and well thought out take.  I’m not sure I completely agree, but it’s far better than some of the sound and fury that goes with the topic.  Usually along the way, the sounds and furies include something along the line of ‘because all Conservatives are racist idiots.’  So this article does a nice job countering that popular media generated narrative. Read more

Should Obama go to Scalia’s funeral

Last updated on: February 19, 2016 at 1:42 pm   By Dave Griffey

Of course he should.  He doesn’t have to.  It’s not written in stone, or in the Constitution.  Bush did, and Eisenhower did once but skipped another.  Who knows what other presidents did in the past?  The point isn’t should he because everyone else did or didn’t do it.  The point is, should he?  Based on everything I’m hearing, he’s not meeting with Putin tomorrow, or signing major legislation.  He’s not flying to India.  He seems like he has a day... Read more

The Washington Post cries bigotry in a display of stunning ignorance

Last updated on: February 19, 2016 at 12:34 pm   By Dave Griffey

Or willful lying.  This may come as a shock, but a liberal media outlet is invoking the charge of bigotry against those it doesn’t like.  In this case, making the charge that Trump is reawakening anti-Catholic bigotry.  Reawakening it?  Where the hell has the Washington Post been?  Where the hell has Christine Emba been?  Are you serious?  This is what you call anti-Catholic? How can you deal with people like this?  After decades of mocking, attacking, ridiculing, and hammering the... Read more

Speaking of Marty Robbins

Last updated on: February 19, 2016 at 11:30 am   By Dave Griffey

I know it’s not necessarily a strong link with Mr. Robbins, but when I thought of him I couldn’t help but remember this old commercial from the decade that taste forgot: Perhaps it’s because I remember commercials for Robbins at about the same time this came out in the era of Smokey and the Bandit and CB radios.  Trucker Music?  How did we ever survive? Read more

RIP Harper Lee

Last updated on: February 19, 2016 at 11:30 am   By Dave Griffey

Author of one of my favorite books of all time.  Who wasn’t assigned To Kill a Mockingbird in school?  I read it and couldn’t get enough of it.  I still will pick it up and read through it every now and then. I read it to my sons.  I’ve read it just for the joy and amazement of how a person with no experience could craft such a power, fun, deep, meaningful, and important work.  That for the longest time... Read more

I know, we’re supposed to be compassionate.  But we’re also supposed to resist the demand to call good evil, and evil good.  And if we do it with a wink and a nod, what can our SNL and Comedy Central opponents say?  Read more

Last updated on: February 19, 2016 at 10:47 am   By Dave Griffey

Without hearing someone have to tell me what the Pope really meant or what he actually said.  I understand translations across different languages.  I understand that the media can’t be trusted to report anything accurately at this point.  And I get that every now and then, some extra clarification might be needed.  But it’s every time the man opens his mouth. Or let me say this.  It’s every time the man opens his mouth on a plane.  Perhaps it’s time to... Read more

The power of liberal group think

Last updated on: February 19, 2016 at 10:31 am   By Dave Griffey

Is that when we see this: And then see this: Most of us say ‘wow, this time it looks like the Republicans have fielded a diverse group of candidates of all age groups’.  But when liberal think tanks see it, they look beyond the obvious and base their arguments on the old ‘it’s still the party of old racist white guys, not like the diverse and youthful Democrats!’ meme.  It’s tough to deal with people who look straight at a brick wall and insist... Read more
