Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.
So the Leftists said. It turns out that a slow but growing resistance to the indisputable truth of pliable gender is women. That’s because, as I said here, there’s a whole lot about the transgender movement that at best seems to take the worst stereotypes of what it means to be a woman, or at the worst it compromises women’s sensitivities and even safety.
Just a few years ago, if a woman, or a girl, cried out that they were being traumatized by something a man did, then hold onto your seats. All hell would break lose. Lawsuits would fly, the media would converge on the scene of the crime, demands for change would be everywhere. And the Left in all of its forms would be leading the charge.
Fast forward past that seismic shift that has torn a rent between the last year and the previous 240 years of American history. Suddenly girls in a school in which a boy who has been allowed to use the girl’s bathroom are bothered. They are bothered because, well, they are in their bathroom and a boy is using the bathroom right along with them. Girls. School kids. Bothered by this sudden shift in 10,000 years of getting the difference between boys and girls, and they’re understandably bothered.
But read the article. Note the sneering. Note the condescension. Note the contempt. Note the mockery. Note that the girls are the bigots. That they could be concerned about showering with a boy, or using the bathroom with a boy, or being naked in a room with a boy they don’t know or perhaps don’t like, is irrelevant. They’re the bad guys. Or girls in this case.
Only a few years ago, if they had been intimidated or bothered by something a boy did, why prayers and pity for that boy. But not now. Now, it is the good progressive folk who hurl loathing and vitriol, mocking them and basically dismissing them outright; their concerns, their feelings, their sensitivities. Screw them. They’re called conservative in the article, and that’s all you need to know about how suddenly unimportant those girls and their girly issues have become.
Of course, the Left has done this to women before. Take abortion, or religion in schools. Race and sex and gender as important concerns only go so far. If you are a blasphemer, if you oppose the Church of the Left, then sit down, shut up and get back to the kitchen where you belong. If you are a woman with serious concerns based on being a woman? Shut up. If you’re black? Shut up. If you’re anything, shut up. Right now the wedge issue being used to destroy the Christian West is non-existent gender norms. You are either with the Left, or you are against it. If you are for it, then it’s feminism and women’s concerns all the way! A young girl traumatized by a boy suggesting the Bible says women are different than men will still get you a day in court and sympathies across the liberal spectrum.
But if you dare challenge the Latest Leftist, and you suggest you’re not ready to sit on a toilet next to a man or shower with a man who insists gender is only about the genitals then, my dear, get out your armor and shields. The slings and arrows that will come at you will not be from your age old enemies like men and conservatives. They will come from the ones who convinced you that men and conservatives were the enemies in the first place. And then, if you’re smart, you’ll figure out who the real enemy was all along. Perhaps, if we’re lucky, before it’s too late.
BTW, bonus points if you noticed the part about using a private bathroom. The first time I read it, I thought they meant that the transgender student could use it, but the girls didn’t want him to. Nope. Read it again. They’re saying a private bathroom.in the nurse’s office could be where the girls go if they don’t like using the bathroom with the boy. Remember, there is no such thing as compromise. That bathroom over there is for conservatives and others who don’t worship at the altar of the Left. And while you’re at it, you can just use the designated drinking fountain next to it.
