About
Once upon a time, Cara Meredith was a high school English teacher. Then she worked for a handful of years for an international youth outreach organization, hanging out with middle school and high school students. Eventually, when a man called her husband and a couple of babies entered the picture, everything flipped turned upside down. She stopped quoting Will Smith (mostly), left vocational ministry (fully), finished a Masters of Theology degree (or so the piece of paper says), and started figuring out what it meant to call herself a writer and a speaker.
More than half a decade later, Cara continues to think about the intersection of life and faith. She muses over what it means to find beauty in the most unlikely of places and to believe in a God of justice when it feels like injustice floods the world around her.
Cara looks at the lives of those around her – especially of her African American husband and their mixed-race sons – and it makes her think about the privilege that’s always been hers because of the color skin she was born in. It makes her wonder how to live in a tension of comfort and discomfort, while leaning into the Jesus who simultaneously rejoices with us and sits beside us in the pain. It pulls her toward a justice and a wholeness and a peace that’s for every single human being, the lull of the power of love the song that calls her home.
But mostly, it makes one woman wonder what it means to color outside of the lines – to push boundaries and believe in the Mystery and realize that sometimes there’s more questions than answers. Might it the same for you?
Cara’s first book, The Color of Life: A Journey Toward Love and Racial Justice, will release with Zondervan in February 2019.
Meanwhile, you can also find her writing on Christianity Today, iBelieve, For Every Mom and a whole bunch of other website and print publications listed here. Cara also speaks extensively, mostly up and down the West Coast, and is proud to call herself an Episcopalian. She is a part of the Compassion International speaker and artist team, and a featured speaker at Red Letter Christians.
