Christopher Closeup Podcast – Guest: Hallie Lord, Part 2

Last week’s “Christopher Closeup” podcast featured Part 1 of my interview with Ryan-Gosling-loving, fashion maveny wife and mother of five Hallie Lord discussing her book “Style, Sex and Substance: 10 Catholic Women Consider the Things That Really Matter.” (You can read about it here). The book consists of 10 essays by a diverse group of women bloggers who share their stories, struggles and faith in revealing, sometimes humorous ways.

This week, it’s time for Part 2 of my interview with Hallie during which she discusses how couples can keep from growing apart in their marriage, how she values the perspective of her single friend (and contributor to the book) Anna Mitchell, and how busy wives and mothers can better incorporate prayer into their lives. Here’s an excerpt of what Hallie said about Karen Edmisten’s essay on prayer:

“Sometimes you are in a season of life where you have to multi-task. It would be wonderful if we all had an hour or two every day where we could sit and quietly pray. But the reality is that it’s not always possible, so you’ve got to learn to fit it in when you can. Also, every single thing that we endeavor to do in life should be part of prayer. A saint once said that even doing the dishes is a prayer to God. I have another friend who every time she folds laundry, she says a prayer for the person she’s folding the shirt for. A dialogue, a conversation with God should be running through our entire day. Karen did a great job of demonstrating ways you can be in constant conversation with God. He is our Father, He is our Brother, He is our Friend. If you had a friend in the room while you were folding laundry, of course you’d be talking about different things. I think she helps us to remember we can always be chatting with God as we go about our day.”
