Church Sues State for Marriage Equality

Last updated on: April 28, 2014 at 5:39 pm   By Christian Piatt

Never before has a major Christian denomination sued state government in the United States over their marriage laws. At least until today, that is. This morning, representatives of the national body of the United Church of Christ filed a lawsuit against the state of North Carolina for violation of their right to religious freedom under the First Amendment. In short, the state has threatened ministers with jail, probation and/or community service for conducting wedding ceremonies for couples that cannot present... Read more

Doing the White Guy Shuffle…

Last updated on: April 23, 2014 at 6:53 pm   By Christian Piatt

There is a seismic shift of sorts underway in the landscape of late-night television. Jay Leno has been replaced by Jimmy Fallon. Letterman will soon be replaced by Stephen Colbert. Seth Myers also is entering the late-night fray, along with the current stable of talking heads, like Jimmy Kimmel, Conan O’Brien, Jon Stewart… Noticing a pattern here? It seems that the old saying is true that the more things change, the more they stay the same. Yes, older established talkshow... Read more

Last updated on: April 22, 2014 at 3:54 pm   By Christian Piatt

Amy shows off her yodeling and confesses that she and Christian *might* have a problem with Candy Crush. In the echo chamber, Andy talks about the Heartbleed internet security flaw and why maybe you should hold off on changing all your passwords. The crew talks about how Chick-Fil-A may be getting back into their good graces with their new focus on healthier food options. After that, Amy wonders about whether or not Jesus had a wife? New evidence supports the... Read more

Advance Copies of BLOOD DOCTRINE? We’ve Got That!

Last updated on: April 18, 2014 at 8:48 pm   By Christian Piatt

Yeah, I hear you. All of your friends listen covetously as you brag about how you were a part of the movement known as the BLOOD DOCTRINE novel project. They’re secretly seething through their forced smiles and gritting teeth, wishing they had jumped on the train when they had the chance. Well we shouldn’t leave them out, should we? Yes, the campaign is over, the T-shirts are in, books are being printed and E-books are in the final stages of... Read more

A video reading of the prologue from BLOOD DOCTRINE, my debut novel, coming out May 1, 2014. In it, I ask the question: “What if we used modern science to bring Jesus back to life?” Read more

The Supreme Court’s Assault on Democracy

Last updated on: April 17, 2014 at 5:00 pm   By Christian Piatt

On January 21, 2010, the Supreme Court ruled in the Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission that corporations are persons, bestowing them with the same rights and privileges. Recently, the court lifted the ban on aggregate campaign donations allowing people (human beings or corporations) to donate to an unlimited number of political candidates. Corporations require humans to run their daily operations and oversee decision-making.  Corporations lack the capacity for autonomous self-governance.  Those that control corporations have their own voice, their... Read more

Four Reasons Men Need Paternity Leave

Last updated on: April 15, 2014 at 10:45 pm   By Christian Piatt

I was saddened, but not entirely surprised, by the response New York Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy received from the sports world for taking the first couple games of the new season off to be with his family during the birth of his child. I was particularly disappointed with Boomer Esiason, retired football quarterback, who said on a sports radio program that Murhpy should “get his ass back to work,” and that if he had wanted to witness his child’s... Read more

How Do I Get My Book Published?

Last updated on: April 15, 2014 at 6:16 pm   By Christian Piatt

There’s self-publishing, and there are the big, traditional publishing houses. But what about a third way for the rest of us? And there are other questions: Do I need an agent? How do I distinguish my title from the millions of others out there? What exactly are the steps in the publishing process? How long does it all take? Here’s a video that shares some insight into the publishing process, how an author determines what route is best for getting... Read more
