Here are seven Bible verses about sex in the Bible.

First Corinthians 7:3-4 “The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband. For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. Likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does.”

The Apostle Paul was concerned that couples denying one another and so he added, “Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control” (1st Cor 7:5). Sometimes couples withhold sex from one another and use it as a weapon in their argument but this is like sending a child to be without their dinner. If this happens for too long, and one partner denies the other, that could cause the denied partner to be tempted since they’re not being satisfied by their partner. Not that this gives them permission as all sex outside of marriage is sin but we cannot withhold from our partner what God has told us not too.

Hebrews 13:4 “Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.”

The author of Hebrews clearly marks the marriage bed as undefiled before God but will judge those who are living in sexual immorality as an adulterous people (Rev 21:8). Some believe that since they’re engaged to be married, they can have sex before they are married and my question is; “Which chapter and verse in the Bible allows for that?” Obviously, there is none.

Mark 7:21-22 “For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness.”

Jesus knows the human heart and as it says in Hebrew 4:13 “And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account” and so God will hold everyone accountable that is living in sexual immorality, committing adultery, and sinning by letting their lust (sensuality) lead their behavior. Our hearts can deceive us into thinking what we’re doing is justified but the heart is highly deceiving and wicked and God says, “Who can know it” (Jer 17:9)?

Proverbs 5:18-19 “Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice in the wife of your youth, a lovely deer, a graceful doe. Let her breasts fill you at all times with delight; be intoxicated always in her love.”

God, as our Creator, created sex for married couples to enjoy and so Solomon writes that we should enjoy our spouse and be satisfied in them but warns “the lips of a forbidden woman drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil” (Prov 5:3) however “Her feet go down to death; her steps follow the path to Sheol” (Prov 5:5).

First Corinthians 7:2 “But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband.”

Paul knew that the Corinthian church had problems with sexual immorality and so he says that it’s better to marry and although he would prefer that they stay as they are, which was single, he writes “if they cannot exercise self-control, they should marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion” (1st Cor 7:9).

Matthew 5:28 “But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”

I love what C.S. Lewis wrote “He that but looketh on a plate of ham and eggs to lust after it hath already committed breakfast with it in his heart” which is the idea behind what Jesus said. Jesus even says having hatred toward another is like murder of the heart (Matt 5:21-22) and so it is with lusting after a man or woman in their heart. There is nothing wrong with lusting after our marriage partner but we can commit sexual immorality in our mind when we lust after someone whose not our spouse because temptation in our minds can lead to sin and sin that is un-repented of leads to death.

Genesis 2:24 “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”

God declares that marriage involves a bonding of the two where two individuals become one flesh or one in union and so the man must leave his family and cleave to his wife or as it is said, “leave and cleave.” It’s also important to point out that God joined them together and that the man is joined to his wife and not wives or the woman cleaves to or is joined with another woman. This shows that God designed marriage for a man and a woman and not women with women and men with men, which is contrary to nature itself.

Conclusion

Sex is only for married couples, as we have read, and created for a man and a woman to come together but some rationalize this away so and so it was “For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error” (Rom 1:26-27) and most tragic of all, “Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them” (Rom 1:32) they actually encourage and promote this. All you have to do is to look around at society and see that they actually condone sex outside of marriage, sex and marriage between same-sex couples, and bed-hopping, sometimes even between consenting married couples, but the end of all this is most tragic as “the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death” (Rev 21:8).
