Here are seven Bible verses for those who are feeling trapped in life right now.
First Corinthians 10:13 “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”
When we are feeling trapped in a situation, we might feel that there’s nowhere to turn but the Apostle Paul reminds us all that there is no temptation that we go through that others have not gone through as already. The fact is, God is faithful and He will always provide a way of escape so we have no excuse. It is up to us to look for that escape route or we’ll fall into temptation and we know that when temptation bears fruit, it leads to sin.
Exodus 14:10-11 “When Pharaoh drew near, the people of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them, and they feared greatly. And the people of Israel cried out to the Lord. They said to Moses, “Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? What have you done to us in bringing us out of Egypt?”
When Israel appeared to be trapped with the Egyptians on one side and the Red Sea on the other, God told Moses to “Tell the people of Israel to turn back and encamp in front of Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, in front of Baal-zephon; you shall encamp facing it, by the sea. For Pharaoh will say of the people of Israel, ‘They are wandering in the land; the wilderness has shut them in” (Ex 14:2-3). The point was, they were to rely on God when they felt trapped, just as we should, and we should say as God told Moses, “the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I have gotten glory over Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen” (Ex 14:18).
Matthew 27:3-5 “Then when Judas, his betrayer, saw that Jesus was condemned, he changed his mind and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders, saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” They said, “What is that to us? See to it yourself.” And throwing down the pieces of silver into the temple, he departed, and he went and hanged himself.”
When Judas changed his mind about betraying Jesus since it would lead to His death, Judas tried to return the money and tell the religious leaders that Jesus was innocent but for Judas, it was too late. He could have repented and asked for forgiveness and been saved but there is zero evidence that Judas ever repented. He only had a worldly guilt which leads to death while a godly repentance leads to eternal life (2nd Cor 7:10).
First Samuel 31:4-5 “Then Saul said to his armor-bearer, “Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and mistreat me.” But his armor-bearer would not, for he feared greatly. Therefore Saul took his own sword and fell upon it. And when his armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell upon his sword and died with him.”
When King Saul had disobeyed God time after time, he came to a point of no return. That is, his heart became hardened so that he no longer listened to God’s voice through the prophet Samuel, but for those who are still breathing, there is still yet time to repent and trust in Christ, but the longer a person resists coming to Christ, the harder their heart becomes until they reach a point of no concern. That’s what happened to King Saul but need not happen to us.
Matthew 6:13 “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”
This verse has been misunderstood because many see this as praying that God doesn’t lead them into temptation while James wrote “Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one” (James 1:13) and that “each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire” (James 1:14) and finally, “desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death” (James 1:15). Incidentally, the word Jesus used for “temptation” is not being tempted to sin but is from the Greek word “peirasmos” which means to be tested, trial, or an experiment.
Psalm 13:1-2 “How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I take counsel in my soul and have sorrow in my heart all the day? How long shall my enemy be exalted over me?”
Have you ever felt this way before? Have you felt like God is hiding His face from you? I have but we must all realize that feelings are not very trustworthy but God’s Word is surer than tomorrow’s sunrise as He says “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Heb 13:5) and the conclusion is “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me” (Heb 13:6).
Psalm 145:18 “The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desire of those who fear him; he also hears their cry and saves them.”
When we feel trapped in a corner, our only option is to look upward, toward God, and when we have nowhere to run, turn to God. God says He “is near to all who call on him” and all means all of us, and that especially means you and me, but only if we call on Him in truth, which means we can’t run to God and ask for help and lie about how we got into our situation. We must confess and admit that sometimes, it’s our own doing, but that’s okay because God says “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1st John 1:9) and that’s being honest with God, however “If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us” (1st John 1:10) and we can’t call upon Him since we’re not doing it “in truth.”
Conclusion
When we feel like God is distant, we must lean on the bedrock of truth that God’s Word says and that is “The Lord is near to the broken hearted and saves the crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18) so my question is, “Do you believe God?” Will you trust Him or will you rely on what you feel? Which is more reliable? Is it feelings or truth? The obvious answer is truth and what God says about you and every child of His is that they have eternal life in Jesus Christ. No trap on earth or in heaven can keep you from that.
