Anybody who has ever attended a wedding knows how joyous the occasion can be. And, for most people it is full of religious imagery and symbolism. Even if people are not necessarily religious, they will often go the traditional route and get married at a church or some other place of worship, which will almost always include biblical references (or references to the religious place they are in). For Christians, marriage is a great picture of Jesus and His church; the two are supposed to become one flesh and be intertwined together until death do them part. Without a doubt, if the Christian is one who reads their Bible and is a committed Christian, they will want to include Bible verses in their wedding. So, for anybody giving a toast to the newlyweds, they must learn of some Bible verses that they can use and be appropriate for the occasion! In fact, that is precisely what my brother had to do for my own wedding not too long ago (just a couple months!). Here are the top 7 Bible verses to use in a toast at a wedding.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 “Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” NKJV

Ephesians 5:22-27 “Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.” NKJV

Genesis 2:23-24 “And Adam said: ‘This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.’ Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” NKJV

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 “Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up. Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm; but how can one be warm alone? Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” NKJV

Proverbs 18:22 “He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor from the Lord.” NKJV

Hebrews 13:4 “Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.” NKJV

Proverbs 19:4 “Houses and riches are an inheritance from fathers, but a prudent wife is from the Lord.” NKJV

Conclusion

The Bible is full of verses about marriage; how people within a marriage should act, the principles in which marriage originated, and even the sexual aspects of it. According to the Scriptures, marriage is definitely a sacred institution and should never be neglected or taken lightly. It is a picture of Christ and His church (the Bride of Christ!) but it’s also a way for two people to become one and grow closer together to the Lord. So, if you’re giving a toast for an upcoming wedding, or even know someone who is, it might be helpful to point them to these passages. There are many more, without a doubt, but these seven are very popular and applicable to a wedding day. If you have heard others used for a toast, please don’t hesitate to tell me about it in a comment below (which will also tell visitors to this site). There are always creative ways to fit in Bible passages to a toast, so it’d be great to learn how people have done it!
