Life, vida, Leben, vie, vita—all of these words mean the same thing, and yet in whatever language it is spoken, it remains a great mystery to mankind. Life is something we cherish and value a great deal, as it separates humanity from inanimate objects. God’s word takes away the mysterious unknowns about our existence, however, and gives us great hope. So here are my top 7 Bible verses about life.

Genesis 2:7 “Then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.”

The Bible contains many verses about life, but one of the most important is this verse in Genesis. The author clearly confirms that God is the creator of man, and it is he that breathed life into humanity. He made man in his image to become a living creature—able to love, procreate, and be a spiritual being having a temporary human experience. Everyone wants to know their parents and how their life began, so the Lord lets us know here in his word that he created us because he loves us very much.

Psalm 91:16 “With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”

Since the Lord created us, he also is our protector and provider. In this passage, he explains that when we follow him, he will take care of us. The Lord will be our savior and our source of provision, and that we are safe under his protective wings for as long as we live.

I Corinthians 7:17 “Only let each person lead the life that the Lord has assigned to him, and to which God has called him. This is my rule in all the churches.”

Although this passage is talking about the choice of being married or not, it also refers to the calling and purpose that God has given each of us. As Christians, our life now has a purpose which is based on our relationship with God. This is made clear in Jeremiah 29:11 that states, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” It is especially true when we choose to follow Jesus.

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

As one of the most famous passages in the Bible, this verse not only defines how much God loves us, but it also presents us with the idea of eternal life. God created us to live here on earth as his children, and also to live with him for eternity. The only condition is that we believe in him. If we do, then we will not perish, but rather live with him forever. What a loving and amazing God he is!

John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’”

Bible Verses About Life

The Bible is God’s roadmap for us as Christians, so we believe in this powerful verse. It clearly states how we can have a close relationship and “life” with the Father. That way is through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, as he is the only way, the only truth and the only life that will bring true joy, meaning and salvation to our lives now and for eternity.

John 8:12 “Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’”

Not very many people enjoy walking around in the dark, as it is very difficult to see one’s path. So Jesus shares here that he is the light of the world, and he will light up the darkest road we are traveling if we will trust and believe in him. It is so much easier to find our way in life, when we can see where we are going. So the Lord is providing us with his road map for our lives as we walk with him.

John 10:10 “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”

There is a popular Christian song by Casting Crowns playing on radio stations around the country right now entitled Thrive, and it clearly describes what God has envisioned for his people. He wants us to not just survive living in this world but rather to thrive, so that we can live joyfully with him forever. That is what Jesus was explaining to the disciples in this verse, as he was reminding them about the opposite strategy of their enemy—Satan. The “thief” wants to destroy us, but God wants us to have an abundant life together with him.

CONCLUSION

Knowing, believing in and experiencing God opens up a whole new world for what it is to have a true and meaningful existence. The Bible tells us that God gave us physical life, and that he is also providing us with an eternal life if we believe in him. His word states that Jesus is the light of this world, so God removes the darkness. Trusting in God, the Father, and in Jesus, the son, opens up a whole new realm of abundant life for us as Christians. This life-walk with him will be one of clarity and brightness with him at our side—not only here on earth but for eternity.

God has been good to me over the years, and I have much for which to be grateful to Him. First of all, I feel blessed to be the pastor’s wife of a thriving church in northern Michigan and the mother of four amazing grown children. It is also very rewarding to be a Christian author, editor and translator for the Kingdom of God. Some of my favorite pastimes include supporting my children’s contemporary Christian band ONLY9AM, singing on the worship team at church, traveling, and connecting with family and friends via social media. When I am not working, I love spending time with my family and especially with my precious three-year-old grandson.
