Top 7 Bible Verses About Nature

Top 7 Bible Verses About Nature 2015-01-19T13:37:39-06:00 Jack Wellman
Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.
Here are my top 7 Bible verses about nature.
God the Rainmaker
Acts 14:17 “Yet he did not leave himself without witness, for he did good by giving you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with food and gladness.”
God is sovereign over the entire universe and in this verse it shows that He also reigns over nature itself. God sends forth the rain to ensure fruitful seasons which can satisfy our “hearts with food and gladness” so why not praise our Great God for all the good things that He has done?
The God of the Seasons
Song of Solomon 2:12 “Flowers are appearing on the earth. The season for singing has come. The cooing of doves is heard in our land.”
What a beautiful verse about spring this is. Is there anything more glorious than the flowers that appear in the spring of the year? Is there anything more beautiful than the birds who sing joyously that spring has sprung? Can the cooing of doves be a more lovely song about this time of the year? All good things come from God and His hand in nature displays His glory for all to see.
The Hand of Nature
Psalm 147:8 “Who covers the heaven with clouds, who prepares rain for the earth, who makes grass to grow upon the mountains.”
Who is it that covers the heavens with the glorious clouds? Who prepares the rains for their departure from heaven for their timely deployment? Who makes the grass grow upon the majestic mountains? Surely it is the Lord of Glory, the Creator Himself who endows this earth with all of its marvelous splendor so why not give God His due glory because the creation already declares the glory of God (Psalm 19:1).
The God of Nature
Luke 8:24 “And they went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” And he awoke and rebuked the wind and the raging waves, and they ceased, and there was a calm.”
During a great storm in the middle of the Sea of Galilee, the Lord stands up and commands the raging waves and wind to be still and they obey Him…instantly! Nature itself is under the sovereignty of God and since we know that Jesus is God (John 1) even nature must obey His command. The Creator has authority over the creation and has no choice but to follow His command for it was “He [that] stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed” (Psalm 107:29).
The Maker of Heaven and Earth
Psalm 8:3-4 “When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?”
David was astounded that God was even mindful of man considering how vast and awesome the universe is for “he assigned to the sea its limit, so that the waters might not transgress his command, when he marked out the foundations of the earth” (Prov 8:29). Jesus Christ “is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power” (Heb 1:3) so what power must this be!
The Sovereign Over Nature
Psalm 146: “Praise the Lord from the earth, you great sea creatures and all deeps, fire and hail, snow and mist, stormy wind fulfilling his word! “
When Job complained to God, he was answered by the Omnipotent God “Have you entered the storehouses of the snow, or have you seen the storehouses of the hail, which I have reserved for the time of trouble, for the day of battle and war” (Job 38:22-23)? The obvious answer is no. Mankind cannot even make it rain, nor can he make hailstones form and fall from the earth. Neither can he create snow to fall from the heavens, therefore God is sovereign over all of nature and yes, over mankind too.
The Bread of Life
Psalm 104:14 “He causes the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth.”
Jesus shows us that God provides for those of us who are His by declaring “Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they” (Matt 6:26) and “Who provides food for the raven when its young cry out to God and wander about for lack of food” (Job 38:41)? It is God who feed the beasts of the field and provides the produce of the earth “for the service of man” and causes it to “bring forth food out of the earth” so we should trust God completely. Jesus says “Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin” (Matt 6:28b). The point Jesus was making was that “if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith” (Matt 6:30)?
Conclusion
God reigns supreme over all of His creation and yet those who live in willful disobedience refuse to repent and trust in Him. He has the power of life and death (Eccl 8:8) and knows the day that we’ll die (Heb 9:27). Since you are still drawing breath, He is giving you time to repent and trust in Him because “The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance” (2 Pet 3:9) so while there is still yet time, come to Him for eternal life (John 3:16) or regret your impenitence forever (Rev 20:12-15).
