Lecrae is on Vine and He’s Kind Of Awesome at It
Last updated on: June 4, 2013 at 8:21 am By Richard Clark
I had been vaguely aware of Lecrae for years. My reformed pastor friends all insisted that his music was like a rapped theology lesson, so naturally, I passed. However, I first truly discovered Lecrae with the release of Church Clothes, a masterful and brutally honest mixtape that signaled his intention to make rap music that was more authentic than pedantic. With his latest album, Gravity, he didn’t disappoint, producing some incredibly self-aware and uninhibited rap music that managed to win... Read more

ELSEWHERE: The Magic of Ira Glass
Last updated on: June 3, 2013 at 12:55 pm By Jewel Evans
Each week, over 1.8 million people (myself included) listen to This American Life. I had the chance to attend an “Evening with Ira” last October and I was certainly the happiest lady in the theater that night. I came across this video, albeit several years old, and found it rather charming. Read more

ELSEWHERE: What Does It Take to Be a Barista?
Last updated on: June 3, 2013 at 11:03 am By Jewel Evans
I’ve been a barista for the past five years and have worked in three coffee shops. One thing that’s been present in each is the relational aspect between the barista and customer. The brief moments shared while serving them provide the perfect setting for a conversation that can cover a range of topics. Sometimes, I just listen. Thanks, Harvard Review for this delightful comic. Read more

ELSEWHERE: The Digital Age’s Growing Inequalities
Last updated on: June 3, 2013 at 8:10 am By Jason Morehead
An increasing number of common, everyday tasks — e.g., paying bills, completing homework, applying for jobs — assume that people have Internet access. Which, in this age, is not unreasonable. But what happens if you’re one of the 100 million Americans who have no way of accessing the Internet at home? Read more

The Moviegoer: Ride or Die? A Fast and Furious 6 Conversation
Last updated on: June 17, 2013 at 5:09 am By Nick Olson
Each week in The Moviegoer, Nick Olson examines new and upcoming films. Editor’s Note: If you’re worried about spoilers then this probably isn’t the conversation you’re looking for. A movie like Fast and Furious 6 deserves more than a review. It deserves a 3500 word email conversation. And I couldn’t think of anyone else I’d rather have that discussion with than my good buddy Chris Gaumer, who is a professor of creative writing, a driver of a 1998 Jeep Cherokee, and,... Read more

ELSEWHERE: Is It Art? Or Invasion Of Privacy?
Last updated on: May 30, 2013 at 2:07 pm By Jason Morehead
Arne Svenson’s recent photo exhibit raises, yet again, the age-old question of “What is art?” Svenson took photos of people living in the luxury condo across the street from his place without their knowledge or awareness — or, as he put it, “[they] don’t know they are being photographed; I carefully shoot from the shadows of my home into theirs.” While the photos don’t reveal identities, his neighbors nevertheless feel like some sort line has been crossed.
