Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.
Every week, our writers will be sharing some of their favorite finds from around the internet. Check back every week for great articles, insane news items, and interesting diversions.
Rich:
There are games that contain sexism, and then there’s Duke Nukem.
Over at Giant Bomb, there’s a video quick look at El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron, a game based on an apocryphal take on the book of Genesis. A strange looking game. Skip to the 27 minute mark to hear some comments about the reception of the religious material in the game.
I wrote a review of an iPad game called Sword & Sworcery over at Paste. I highly recommend the game, even if it does contain some flaws.
This review of some random iPhone game called Air Supply over at Kill Screen is worth reading even if you don’t care about the game, because of how thoughtfully it calls into question how we often think about games these days. (Seth T. Hahne, this is for you)
Drew:
Mike Cosper has written an interesting article on why people connect with Radiohead. You can stream Radiohead’s new album King of Limbs this week only at Pop Matters.
Brent Thomas reflects on “Gamification” and “Christian Hedonism”
Here is an interesting review of Marjorie Garber’s The Use and Abuse of Literature.
Micro-label On Joyful Wings has released a cover album of Sufjan Steven’s Seven Swanns. The project is called Seven Swans Reimagined and contains tracks by Bonnie Prince Billy, The Gregory Brothers, Derek Webb, Half-Handed Cloud, and David Crowder Band. You can stream the album on Bandcamp before buying.
Grand Theft Auto and the Problem of Evil – Is GTA more moral than Zelda? A fun and thought provoking read.
Part 3, Part 4, and Part 5 of Paste’s Final Fantasy VII Letters have now been posted for your reading pleasure.
What’s a Congregation Worth? A look at whether a local congregation adds value to its community.
David:
Tim Keller explains who the poor are
Both “hook ups” and “virginity” on college campuses are on the rise….how is that even possible?
Jason:
Pixar describes their creative process as “going from suck to nonsuck”.
Ben recently wrote about the demise of Borders. Borders may be dying, but they still want to pay out $8.3 million in bonuses to various executives.
Jeffrey Overstreet on some current trends in American cinema: “We’re seeing more and more movies that suggest that the world is in crisis, and that our methods for saving it are failing. We’re looking for hope in all the old familiar places, and those stories are starting to seem unsatisfying.”
Twitch’s Todd Brown has some very harsh words for Zack Snyder regarding Sucker Punch and female empowerment: “…if he honestly believes Sucker Punch is sending out a positive message to women, then he must view women in a phenomenally bad light.”
Topless Robot offers 10 reasons to check out George R.R. Martin’s A Game of Thrones.
