Unconditional Election: A Study in What it Means to be God

Last updated on: August 18, 2022 at 6:41 pm   By Jack Lee

When discussing biblical doctrine, the subject of Unconditional Election can be an emotional, dynamic trigger for many Christians. For some, such as myself, it spurs immediate reflections on God's sovereignty, grace, and divine nature. And for others, it provokes thoughts of injustice and partiality. Yet, as much as the latter might not like it, the doctrine of divine election is very biblical. Read more

Total Depravity: A Critical Lesson in Seeing the Riches of Sovereign Grace

Last updated on: July 5, 2022 at 2:46 pm   By Jack Lee

This is how Total Depravity helps us. It tells us, honestly, who we are and what we naturally deserve: wrath. Total Depravity is a critical, first lesson that one must learn if they are to truly grasp the depth, beauty, and richness of God's sovereign grace. Read more

Keeping ‘the Main Thing the Main Thing’: Thoughts on Rick Warren’s SBC Speech

Last updated on: June 17, 2022 at 10:39 pm   By Jack Lee

It is impossible to glorify God if we are not keenly aware of His Word. I would go further and say that anyone advocating that we can glorify God by disobeying His Word is prescribing evil. This is direct dissension from God, His Word, and the economy of His covenant with us. If we are to keep the main thing the main thing, as Mr. Warren pleaded, we must center our lives and ministry on obeying God and His Word. Thankfully, His Word is extremely clear on the issue of women pastors and elders.  Read more

Pride Cometh Before the Fall

Last updated on: June 1, 2022 at 2:54 pm   By Grayson Gilbert

As we enter into yet another June pridefully bedazzled with rainbow rhinestones and glitter, I can’t quite help but think of the prescient words of Carl Trueman from ten years ago: “…the beautiful young things of the reformed renaissance have a hard choice to make in the next decade. You really do kid only yourselves if you think you can be an orthodox Christian and be at the same time cool enough and hip enough to cut it in the... Read more

The Problem is the Leaders: Why the Church is in Shambles

Last updated on: June 2, 2022 at 8:29 am   By Grayson Gilbert

A recent worldview survey was released from George Barna and Arizona’s Cultural Research Center detailing what many have been saying for years: there is a fundamental issue in the church and it stems from the pulpits. The results of this report are particularly damning, as they indicate only 41% of lead pastors, 28% of associate pastors, 13% of teaching pastors, 12% of youth pastors, and 4% of executive pastors actually hold to a comprehensive worldview. Taken on the whole, just... Read more

Inerrancy and the Gospels: How to Handle Narrative Differences

Last updated on: May 20, 2022 at 2:15 pm   By Jack Lee

Poythress reminds us of the complete trustworthiness of scripture, and the importance of remembering historical, narrative context. As Christians, we are called to trust God and His written word. If we find what appears to be a contradiction, our first response should be to remember that the problem lies not with the text, but with us. Read more

Our Cultural Moment

Last updated on: May 3, 2022 at 9:38 am   By Grayson Gilbert

The apoplectic rage of those who wish to protect their “right” to terminate the life of the innocent is nothing short of astounding. I say this, not because the outrage isn’t to be expected, but simply that if there were any lingering doubt on what the Democratic platform, and leftism in general, holds dear, there is no longer an air of mystery. With the leak of the SCOTUS draft on ending Roe v. Wade, we get a window into the... Read more

Debunking Silly Leftist Teachings: Does the Old Testament Support Abortion?

Last updated on: April 22, 2022 at 1:29 pm   By Grayson Gilbert

If you’ve been a Christian for any length of time, you have likely run into various arguments people make that seek to draw out the inconsistency of the conservative position on things like traditional marriage, gender ideologies, and even abortion. For today’s post, I want to simply key in on one of the aforementioned issues: abortion. The argument, as many non-Christians (and even some professing Christians) purport, is that God is largely indifferent to abortion at best, and actually supports... Read more

6 Common Misconceptions About Calvinism

Last updated on: July 2, 2022 at 9:04 pm   By Jack Lee

When it comes to Christianity, few theological subjects are more controversial and polarizing than Calvinism. Since the time of the Reformation, Christians, historians, and theologians all over the world have fiercely debated these doctrines. Subsequently, this has created all kinds of claims about what Calvinism teaches (some accurate and some not). Having been a Calvinist for almost 20 years, I have experienced this firsthand; I have heard it all. From robot analogies to man-worship, to even gross misunderstandings about God's love and justice. In turn, I thought it would be useful to directly address some of the common misconceptions about the Doctrines of Grace. Read more
