I love summer. It\u2019s my favorite season, all of it.\u00a0 Every year we make a list and yes, a lot of it is tradition and repetitive, berry picking, ice cream trucks, going to the pool, reading a book, going to a drive in, hiking, fireworks, but part of the joy is thinking in advance about all the fun we will have.\u00a0 So I present on this Memorial Day Weekend, my summer list.\u00a0 It\u2019s not all the usual stuff, but there are from this weekend to Labor day, one hundred days.\u00a0 We need a hundred ways to mark the occasion.
\n
\n100) Ice Cream.\u00a0 It\u2019s always summer if you\u2019re eating ice cream.
\n99) Fireworks (Ditto)
\n98) Playing cards.
\n97) Going to the pool.
\n96) Going to the library.
\n95) Berry Picking.
\n94) Praying a daily rosary of grattitude for this season of warmth and wonderfulness.
\n93) Painting a room.
\n92) Planting a garden.
\n91) Waterballoon fight with children.
\n90) Drawing every square inch of the driveway.
\n89) Going to the fair.<\/p>\n
Fun fun fun until school starts back up.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
88) Baseball \u2013watching, not playing.
\n87) Practicing my drums.
\n86) Going to a concert.
\n85) Watching a movie as a family.
\n84) Hiking in the mountains.
\n83) Skipping rocks.
\n82) Pilgrimage to a local shrine.
\n81) Adoration in the heat of the day.<\/p>\n
\n80) Dance competition with your family.\u00a0 \u00a0(Rejoicing in the gifts of our bodies)
\n79) Board game day. (No screens)
\n78) Fishing.\u00a0 (It\u2019s what the apostles do).
\n77) Summer Cleaning and donating, also known as Trucky day in our house \u2013I rent a truck.\u00a0 I love it.
\n76) The Beach \u2013my personal sacred place, all of the ocean.
\n75) thrifting.
\n74) painting on canvases.
\n73) daily rosary or daily mass, in person or listened to.
\n72) Star gazing.\u00a0 \u2013marvel at the heavens created by the One who created them.
\n71) Smoking a brisket, a slice of heaven.
\n70) Visiting battle grounds, learning history, honoring the dead and praying for their souls (Spiritual Act of Mercy)
\n69) Going to a museum, taking in the beauty.
\n68) Teach two daughters how to drive \u2013it will also improve my patience, and increase my faith.
\n67)\u00a0 Hammock time \u2013it is good to rest.
\n66) Write letters.\u00a0 Saint Paul did, we should too.
\n65)\u00a0 Go to the Zoo.
\n64)\u00a0 Rent a Kayak or Canoe on a local lake.<\/p>\n
\n63) Bonfire s\u2019mores.
\n62)\u00a0 Spa day at home.
\n61)\u00a0 Kite Flying.
\n60)\u00a0 Spend a day in DC.
\n59)\u00a0 Food Truck Day.
\n58)\u00a0 The Aquarium.

\n56)\u00a0 Mario Kart Races with handicapping.\u00a0 (It will be my kids\u2019 revenge for driving lessons).

\n50)\u00a0 \u00a0Beat Bobby Flay \u2013we used to do this, and I am the reigning champion, but my husband has become much more accomplished as a chef in recent years.\u00a0 I still have speed on him, but he has skill.

\n47)\u00a0 \u00a0Date Night once a week.\u00a0 \u00a0 Part of sustaining ourselves.

\n42)\u00a0 \u00a0Go to local farms \u2013mushrooms, fresh cheese, tomatoes that can be measured in pounds, wines, it\u2019s wonderful.

\n39)\u00a0 \u00a0 Minigolf \u2013bragging rights do sometimes cause people to pray perhaps for victory more than they should.

\n37)\u00a0 \u00a0 Provide Paul with opportunities to read, write, garden, and cook.
\n36)\u00a0 \u00a0 Run\/walk in a 5k.
\n35)\u00a0 \u00a0 Blow bubbles.<\/p>\n
\n34)\u00a0 \u00a0 Pedicure day, all the girls who want one.
\n33)\u00a0 \u00a0 Dentist day \u2013taking care of the body.
\n32)\u00a0 \u00a0 Physicals day.\u00a0 Ditto.
\n31)\u00a0 \u00a0 Planetarium.
\n30)\u00a0 \u00a0Visit three colleges.
\n29)\u00a0 \u00a0Go to Charlestown and see the horse races.

\n14)\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Write an article a week for somewhere to submit.\u00a0 \u00a0(Again, hope over experience).
\n13)\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Read a book a week.\u00a0 And encourage all my kids to do the same.\u00a0 Audibles count.
\n12)\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Edit.\u00a0 It\u2019s a discipline I need.<\/p>\n
\n11)\u00a0 \u00a0 Take dog for daily walks \u2013it\u2019s when I\u2019ll get in the rosary.\u00a0 \u00a0 Tomorrow\u2019s her birthday.
\n10)\u00a0 \u00a0Thank God daily for my family, and all the gifts of every day.
\n9)\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Go out to lunch with friends, once a week all summer.
\n8)\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Take a trip to visit a friend (in July).
\n7)\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Work on working out \u2013by doing my therapy stretches I\u2019ve ignored for several months.
\n6)\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Visit daughter out in Chicago so she knows, we think of her often.
\n5)\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Go to confession once a month to keep my spirit properly docile.
\n4)\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Try to spend less and use what we have more.
\n3)\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Home grown tomato salad \u2013a taste of Heaven if ever there was one.
\n2)\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Eye appointment \u2013been putting off, need to do.\u00a0 Will help with many of these goals.
\n1)\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Outings with each of my children \u2013individuals, at least one each, this summer.<\/p>\n
If I do even half these things, the summer will fly by and be loads of fun, and that doesn\u2019t include the two graduations, the trips my daughters took \u2013one to London, another to Italy, or the trip my son and daughter are taking to California, which I will enjoy vicariously, or the conference I\u2019m attending in June.\u00a0 \u00a0Summer will be a season of celebration, even on the quiet sticky hot days, because the dog will still need to be walked, and ice cream eaten and God, thanked.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
