What We Can’t Do
Last updated on: September 6, 2025 at 9:24 pm By Sherry Antonetti
Any time someone does wrong, there is a temptation to retaliate. It’s human nature, to return spite with spite, hate with hate. Sin begets sin. On Thursday, in the Dallas Cowboys/Philedelphia Eagles game, Dak Prescott of the Cowboys spit at Jalen Carter and Jalen responded on National Television and got evicted before the first minute transpired for his behavior. Spit for spit led to two people being classless on national television. No one wants to surrender their right to respond... Read more

Those Who Teach Must Do
Last updated on: September 2, 2025 at 10:13 pm By Sherry Antonetti
The shooting in Minnesota is, was, and shall remain a tragedy. The shooter must face our Lord, and we must trust in God’s perfect justice and mercy. Two children plus the shooter are dead, and their families must pick up the fragments of their lives while coping with public grief and speculation and politics and media that circles around such stories. The other families who have children at that school, the other eighteen injured in the attack, and those who... Read more

Around the Dinner Table
Last updated on: August 28, 2025 at 9:52 pm By Sherry Antonetti
These days, I value ordinary conversations. They’re becoming an endangered species. I used to listen to the news all the time, but now fifteen minutes is enough to set off a firestorm. Something somebody does, is going to make someone and it might be me, irritated. The world seems to be perpetually outraged and on fire, with no one proposing how the tempers might be cooled, only that they should be. So I like ordinary discussions, about food, books, what... Growing Hurts, but it’s worth it
Last updated on: August 26, 2025 at 8:34 pm By Sherry Antonetti
Any time we’ve made spiritual progress, we should expect to be tested and will probably find ourselves a few steps behind where we started. The moment of awareness is usually the apex before the fall. However, the goal is to persist in trusting in God’s mercy and willingness to forgive us and allow us to “begin again.” As a mom of teens and older, getting them to see that you can “begin again,” and that the actions of a day... Be Kinder than Deserved

Putting everything together for school takes a lot of physical time and all the mental and emotional energy I have. It leaves little for putting words onto the page. Yet, the goal of a writer is to put down words, every day. No chances, no excuses. The habit itself, will help the words come. So I’m here at the keyboard trying to coax thoughts out of my head. They are not coming. Instead, what floods my head, are fears. We... Read more

Selling Everything, Surrendering the “That”
Last updated on: August 19, 2025 at 10:34 pm By Sherry Antonetti
Every year we hear this gospel about the rich good young man who went away sad because he had many possessions. We don’t know what the rest of the story is, so to speak. Did he go home and stew? Go home and weep? Start to pare back and sell everything, only to find the Rabbi he’d followed had been crucified? Did he become an early Christian, whose name we do not know? However his question gave us the univeral... Read more

How We Handle What Is to Come
Last updated on: August 17, 2025 at 10:26 pm By Sherry Antonetti
The easiest path to joy, is to count your blessings. This weekend, I saw all ten of my children –not all at once, but over the course of the three days. My heart fluttered for much of the time. However, we did have to drop one off at the airport today, and that’s always hard on the spirit. Knowing I won’t know when I will see them, I have to wait in joyful hope. At the end of the weekend,... Read more

If You Want to Be a Saint, You Cannot be Safe Here
Last updated on: August 14, 2025 at 2:18 pm By Sherry Antonetti
I keep thinking of the line from “The Chronicles of Narnia,” “He’s not a tame lion.” Readers of the books know, Aslam is allegorical for Jesus –or rather, Lewis retold the story of Christ through the lens of myth. Loving God likewise, is unsafe. We will be called to go places we would not otherwise wander. Lewis’ good friend Tolkien from the Fellowship wrote, “It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you... Read more

We live in a world that seems very binary. There’s a meme about how “Christian” our current president is because of somethings that have happened during this administration. Without either citing the cheerleader meme or going into the details of what the current commander in chief or his staff believe to be examples of good he is, I challenge the reality of this set up. The meme itself is wrong. Being “Christian” isn’t about a tally sheet, where some good... Read more

35 Years and Counting
Last updated on: August 11, 2025 at 11:45 pm By Sherry Antonetti
Today, thirty-five years ago, I married the love of my life. I know it’s been fun because time flew since. Every year is the most romantic year ever. So I thought I’d turn today into an advice column for those who would like to celebrate even more than thirty-five years of marriage. 35. Date night –once a week if possible. 34. Birthdays and anniversaries and holidays count. 33. Ordinary time counts even more. 32. Write letters to each other. 31. ... Read more
