Happiness is a Warm House
Last updated on: January 19, 2022 at 4:59 pm By Sherry Antonetti
We have heat! I don’t have Covid! Everybody Mambo! Everybody Mambo GIFfrom Everybody GIFs I get to teach tomorrow. My daughter turns eleven! We planned a party for her and I sent invitations. (It’s an accomplishment in the week). Now I just have to get all the grades done so I can manage all the responsibilities of life that a cold house chased out of my brain. What I love is whenever I lay down the law in my class... Read more

On My UnBucket List
Last updated on: January 17, 2022 at 10:23 am By Sherry Antonetti
This past week, five of the six of us finally tested negative for Covid. I’m the lone hold out. To keep life interesting, on Thursday, one of the two furnaces in the house quit. Service men came out and fixed it just in time for my husband to come home. The other furnace quit the next day. Naturally, it was the weekend and a winter storm loomed. Let me tell you what happens when only one furnace works. The kids... Read more

This Week….
Last updated on: January 16, 2022 at 10:19 pm By Sherry Antonetti
Not Quite Eventful My daughter flew back from Chicago for New Years day. She arrived three hours late owing to the need to thaw and de-ice the plane twice before taking off. Greeted by freezing rain falling sideways and her mom and one sister, we made it home before the rain became snow and all of Northern Virginia, DC and bordering counties of Maryland came to a stand still for the next four days. We’d secured her a hotel room... Read more

The Unexpected Journey
Last updated on: January 9, 2022 at 1:42 pm By Sherry Antonetti
Today, we are watching the Lord of the Rings or will be. The Hobbit (the first one) came on, and we’re watching and I’m already thinking of starting the true series when it is over. There is enough there to remind me of what we loved, while enough bloat to remind me of why this series (the second trilogy that was the prequel), failed to capture the heart. Not enough of this… Too much that felt like I was watching... Read more

Things One Does When One Has Covid
Last updated on: January 8, 2022 at 9:36 pm By Sherry Antonetti
Think about organizing the closet. Think about reading. Think about writing. Clear out summer clothes from drawers. Wish you didn’t have Covid because if you didn’t, you would take down the Christmas tree. Think about grading. Ponder exercising in your room. None of these things will happen, we will simply consider that we could be doing this, but we’re not. Covid is basically a stay in one place until it’s better sentencing that leaves one longing to do... Read more

500 Words
Last updated on: January 6, 2022 at 6:07 pm By Sherry Antonetti
Runners run, chefs cook, writers write. I’ve been off my writer’s game since before Christmas. I used to write 500 words a day, no excuses, no exceptions. However, cancer pulled me into wanting to just sit, and not try to carve out words. Additionally, I felt dried up. Now some people think, “Hey, writers block. Take a break.” However I believe there’s writers’ will, and there’s writers’ won’t. Block is a place holder, a convenient way to excuse not pushing... Read more

The Shallow Skipping Heart needs to Sink into God’s love
Last updated on: December 29, 2021 at 10:32 am By Sherry Antonetti
Cancer like any suffering, offers the opportunity to go “deeper and deeper in.” For me, I’ve found myself struggling with being unwilling to plunge. Skipping along the surface of my faith in prayer, in practice not because I do not believe, but because everything takes effort. The general fatigue that accompanies my treatment, enables the withdraw from service to seem reasonable, and that in turn allows the soul to presume as it rests, that it is somehow okay to become... The Illusion of Permanent Pain
Last updated on: December 16, 2021 at 5:38 pm By Sherry Antonetti
Advent reminds us, the reality of life is not death, not pain, not trauma but joy. That was the purpose of our original existence, to rejoice in the love of our Creator. It’s why when the world through sin asserts otherwise, we respond with such raw emotion, as indicated in the video of the original attack on the Christmas parade. We know and our hearts cry out to Heaven for what should be as versus what is. Evil doesn’t... Read more

It’s December 15th, I’m Flunking Advent and Christmas and Let’s Add New Year’s While We’re at It.

It’s December 15th, I’m Flunking Advent and Christmas and Let’s Add New Year’s While We’re at It. I put off shopping for Christmas.. I have great aspirations. I make lists. I make plans. The store and I never converge until we get to the eleventh hour. I realize, I am at the eleventh hour. I also am still procrastinating. So as a result, you get to read something. Yay. When people meet me and find out I have ten children,... Read more

The World is a Mess, Time to Start Cleaning
Last updated on: December 10, 2021 at 4:46 am By Sherry Antonetti
When we clean for the holidays, we suddenly discover all the ways in which we’ve blinded ourselves to the surrounding clutter. It takes new eyes or being willing to look at our lives with new eyes, to see what needs doing. This happens when we organize. It happens when we plan a diet or a budget. It happens when we propose remodeling something. The newness of the new reveals the broken nature of what we’ve ignored, and so the project... Read more
