Thankful for Today 2026-07-07T17:15:17-04:00 Sherry Antonetti

Most of us know, gratitude is something to cultivate.  The reality is, few of us engage in a regular exercise of this discipline, and our society is all the poorer for it.  We do not count our blessings, but man do we hyperfixate on our trials.

For a while, I did a weekly examination of my life, looking to see how things had changed and grown over the course of seven days, but fell out of the habit.   At the suggestion of my daughter who is engaged in a similar course of action, I am reinstating this practice in my own life.

So this past week, I am grateful for having made it to the age of sixty –it wasn’t something people could count on, given my own health issues as an infant.

I am grateful for my husband, who surprised me at Christmas with a birthday present trip to Philedelphia to see a World Cup game.  We had a blast.

Since July started, I’ve made it to adoration, confession, and mass a few times and discovered a church I love in Philedelphia, Saint John the Evangelist.   The music created by a singer, pianist and violinist filled and rebounded throughout the mass, being both glorious and cacophonous at the same time.

My children celebrated my birthday with cake, with presents, with games, with thoughtfulness and I am very grateful for each and every one of them.

I am grateful the graces God gives me, and that God often tells me in the moment, “here is a grace I am giving you, use it well.”  as if to ensure I do not bury it in the ground.   It is a blessing.

Lastly, I thank God for all the answered prayers, and I know all of them are answered.   I’m also grateful God doesn’t weary of me showing up with a list.   I like to think He looks at my heart and says, “Okay Sherry, you realize, you’re going to be helping to field all these calls for all of eternity right?”

To which, in my best moments, I say, “Can’t wait.”  Thankful for today, will write more tomorrow as I work on getting back into a disciplined writing regimen.
