asking desire to slow dance during the longest song
Last updated on: July 21, 2023 at 1:28 pm By Irisanya Moon
In the Reclaiming tradition, we have core classes. One can take them to learn about Reclaiming culture, magick, and community, and to meet cool people. Elements of Magick is the first one, the foundational one, the one that is a pre-requisite for the rest (mostly). I’ve been co-teaching an Elements of Magick class online, with a lovely co-teacher and friend, and also with Aphrodite as the main character in this offering. Why? Why not? After all, we’re heading into Venus... Read more

the wonder of nostalgia: the spell of reconnecting to the parts that we thought we knew
Last updated on: July 14, 2023 at 10:41 am By Irisanya Moon
This week, I wandered into nostalgia. I wandered into a past where I was whole (I thought), strong (I felt), and overcaffeinated (totally). It was the late 90s. It was a coffee shop that called me back for an interview. It was a job that I took on to start creating my independent life away from my parents and old friends. I was striking out for the new, the wondrous, the free coffee. And I did. I woke up for... Read more

the rules of magickal re-entry: (the first rule: you get to make up new rules)
Last updated on: July 3, 2023 at 11:17 am By Irisanya Moon
Deepening into mystery, a phrase of importance and vagueness. Each day is, actually, a mystery. No matter how many horoscopes you read, weather reports you study, and life experiences you have, nothing is certain. The matters of the heart are no different. The matters of the spirit are no different. I got back from California Witchcamp yesterday. It was deep in ways I hadn’t expected, ‘easy’ in ways I also hadn’t expected, and my brain wants to figure it all... Read more

What I’m Packing for Witchcamp
Last updated on: June 23, 2023 at 10:10 am By Irisanya Moon
I’m heading off to Witchcamp soon. This requires a little preparation, including packing my bags, heart, and body. Camp is an intense week of magickal mischief and ritual, connecting with friends from around the world, and sleeping under redwoods. One of my favorite/least favorite parts of the process is packing. I tend to favor the ‘throw-it-all-in-a-pile-and-sort-through-it-later’ approach. This way, I can tend to the preparation over the course of weeks, and things can adjust as I drop more into the... Upcoming Heart Magick
Last updated on: June 23, 2023 at 10:10 am By Irisanya Moon
I thought I’d share a bit about my heart magick here since I’m taking a step back from longer blogging until I finish the next book I’m writing. Starts July 13: Elements of Magick: Aphrodite Calls Sequoia and I are offering an online Elements of Magick class, with Aphrodite as a guide and ally in the work of Reclaiming Witchcraft. We’ll work with each of the elements, her stories, her magick, and the possibility of beauty in all moments. Starts... Read more

Crimson Coven Chat: Life is a Love Spell – Aphrodite as Inspiration & Initiator
Last updated on: May 31, 2023 at 12:43 pm By Irisanya Moon
Aphrodite is a misunderstood deity, often limited to the role of a seductress or the most beautiful of beings. But Love has always been wider than the ocean, with more waves and movement than is comfortable: challenging and desperate, an initiation of surrender. A Conversation about Aphrodite and More Irisanya Moon (she/they) talks with Halo Quin (they/she) about her popular book, “Aphrodite: Encountering the Goddess of Love & Beauty & Initiation,” as well as about how initiations into the mysteries... ADHD Witching: An Update
Last updated on: May 19, 2023 at 7:01 pm By Irisanya Moon
It’s been a minute since I’ve said anything on this blog about ADHD. For those just joining, I was diagnosed in October 2022 and medicated in November. I started with a small dose of immediate-release medication and have increased my dose slightly this year. Since I last checked in, I’ve taught more classes, traveled to teach at a camp in another country, and worked on new projects. I’ve had many chances to see if I was different. If my magick... Following the Call(s) of Aphrodite
Last updated on: May 5, 2023 at 5:30 pm By Irisanya Moon
She who loves, She who is Love. She offers love as the balm, the bright, and the beauty. She is many faces, many facets, the mirror ball that reflects and shimmers into the world. The one who called me and knew my name before I did. The one who laughed when I turned away because She knew I’d return. Aphrodite. Aphrodite. Aphrodite. I did. Answering the Waves and Following Her to Shore I will not remember the exact moment I... Read more

Becoming Your Own Love Spell
Last updated on: April 28, 2023 at 6:02 am By Irisanya Moon
If I’ve learned anything from Aphrodite, it’s this: you are already a love spell. I complete me. I carry my heart in my heart. For all of the searching and the reaching, for all of the wondering and the wandering, for all of the desire that bounces around the walls of empty rooms – or that dances slowly in a corner, you are already a conjuring. I am already the curve of reflection and the image falling in love with... Read more

When the Heart Finds Magick Again
Last updated on: May 19, 2023 at 6:59 pm By Irisanya Moon
My heart has known magick. My heart has also seen miracles and felt betrayal and known hope. I have found it in the places I have been afraid to travel to and where I have arrived, with a plan or not. (With the right things packed, or not. Usually not. Last time, I forgot a hairbrush.) My heart knows when something is calling and when something is asking for me to extend beyond the space of what I think is... Read more
