In Harvey’s new book, Raising White Kids: Bringing Up Children in a Racially Unjust America, the Drake University professor brilliantly composes a practically and profoundly deep theologically challenge to parents of white children. CBF Podcast: A Conversation with Melvin Bray

Last updated on: February 20, 2018 at 11:35 am   By Guest Contributor

By Andy Hale We live such transient lives. For most, we no longer live in the same town, let alone the same state, we grew up. This disconnect from our familial roots causes us to not know the stories of those that came before us. More often than not, we do not know the stories of those who live in our community. Emmy Award winning storyteller Melvin Bray is driven to be a facilitator and strategist to make beloved community... Read more

Last updated on: February 6, 2018 at 4:08 pm   By Guest Contributor

“So, this idea of fake news is really vicious, because there is genuine fake news generated on social media and then there are those who run their media outlets on a set of general ethics about they treat sources, how they check facts, and being transparent when mistakes are made.” Read more

Don’t Bogart God’s Love, My Friend

Last updated on: February 2, 2018 at 9:52 am   By Guest Contributor

God’s people always seem to develop the bad habit of dangling God's grace and forgiveness in front of others. We always seem to pick up the bad habit of assuming our own salvation and, with smugness, being certain of God’s coming judgment against others. Read more

It Ain’t About You

Last updated on: January 30, 2018 at 1:02 pm   By Guest Contributor

Life does not revolve around you, or me. It does not begin or end with what we want or what we alone think is best. Life within a group of Christ-followers revolves around what Christ says is best for the overall body. And the foundation of Christ’s teachings and actions was love. Love, not just for the people who agree with us, but even for those with whom we do not agree. Read more

CBF Podcast: A Conversation with Christianity Today’s Katelyn Beaty

Last updated on: January 24, 2018 at 3:30 pm   By Guest Contributor

“I think there are some assumptions about gender and gender roles in the absence of a faith and work conversation. A lot of women of my generation find the stay-at-home mom verses the working mom quite tiring,” Beaty said. She added, “So, I wanted to give other women a theological framework for work, to understand the goodness and the significance of their daily work.” Read more

From Protest to Beloved Community

Last updated on: January 14, 2018 at 10:54 pm   By Aaron Weaver

Protest was and is the means to this holy end. Protest, in its many different forms, was and is a means to awaken moral shame on the love-paved road to redemption and reconciliation. “The nonviolent resister…realizes that non-cooperation and boycotts are not ends within themselves, they are merely means to awaken the sense of moral shame within the opponent,” King said. Read more

Do the Right Thing?

Last updated on: January 8, 2018 at 3:06 pm   By Guest Contributor

No matter the challenge, we must answer the same question that Mary and Joseph faced. Will we trust that God is present in our situation? Will we trust that whatever direction life is going in, God can salvage it and bring something marvelous from it? Are we able to have faith that the unexpected things, the things that fall outside of normal convention can sometimes serve as wonderful signs that God is at work in our lives and the world. They can serve as signs that God is doing something new and we are blessed to view that newness firsthand. Read more
