Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.
By Andy Hale
We sat down with Emma Green, staff writer for The Atlantic, to discuss what it is like being a writer in the 24/7 news cycle and the persistent badgering of “fake news?”
“This time represents an existential threat to the way we function as Americans in a democracy. We depend on, as a nation, the ability to argue, deliberate, and vote. And all this is dependent on a common set of truths or facts that we all can operate out of,” said Green.
How then do you determine what is credible and what is fake? Green said, “So, this idea of fake news is really vicious, because there is genuine fake news generated on social media and then there are those who run their media outlets on a set of general ethics about they treat sources, how they check facts, and being transparent when mistakes are made.”
We delve into her coverage of religion, working through the challenges presented in the often converging landscape of religion and law.
