The legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. resounds in the lives of individuals, churches, and organizations. One such organization is the New Baptist Covenant.

The New Baptist Covenant’s executive coordinator, Hannah McMahan, joined us for a conversation about the work of Dr. King.

“I am inspired by the stories of those who sacrificed, worked, and continued to push on. I am empowered by their strength,” McMahan said.

When asked what energizers her to go to work each day, she said, “I think that this work is just what I signed up for when I was baptized. I take that seriously. I’m constantly humbled that this is God’s work.”

The New Baptist Covenant celebrated 10 years in 2017. It’s hard to believe that over 10 years ago, President Carter brought together prominent leaders from across the Baptist family, representing more than 30 Baptist organizations and over 20 million people. He challenged Baptists to explore new opportunities for fellowship and cooperation.

From this effort, a ministry of action named the New Baptist Covenant was born, uniting Baptists and renewing our pursuit of unity and justice on the local and national scale.

The New Baptist Covenant’s Summit will be Oct. 15-17, 2018, in Atlanta Ga. As the 10 year anniversary of the New Baptist Covenant, they will be honoring President Carter and his legacy in the Baptist family. President Carter will attend, as well as many other Baptist leaders. Be on the lookout for more information as we approach the Summit.
