year_with_mary_alphonsus_2The Blessed Trinity welcomes Mary to heaven

Once Mary has been welcomed by the angels, her family, and all the saints, the Most Holy Trinity receives her and places her on her throne. St. Alphonsus imagines the scene.

After having been greeted by the angels and the saints, the humble and

holy virgin kneels and adores the divine Majesty. She is totally absorbed in the awareness of her own nothingness. So she thanks him for all the graces bestowed upon her by his pure goodness, and especially for having made her the mother of the Eternal Word.

Then, let him who can, comprehend with what love the Most Holy Trinity blesses her. Let him comprehend the welcome given to his daughter by the Eternal Father, to his mother by the Son, to his spouse by the Holy Spirit. The Father crowns her by imparting his power to her. The Son imparts his wisdom; the Holy Spirit imparts his love.

Then the three Divine Persons, placing her throne at the right of the throne of Jesus, declare her to be the sovereign of heaven and earth. They command the angels and all creatures to acknowledge her as their queen, and so to serve and obey her. Imagine, then, how exalted is the throne to which Mary is raised in heaven!

“The Apostle Paul tells us,” says St. Bernard, “that the mind of man can never conceive the immense glory prepared in heaven by God for those who on earth have loved him (see 12 Cor 2:9). Who, then, can ever conceive the glory he prepared for his beloved mother? For she was the one who, more than all others, loved him on earth. In fact, even from the very first moment of her creation, she loved him more than all men and angels united!” —St. Alphonsus Liguori, The Glories of Mary

 IN GOD’S PRESENCE, CONSIDER . . .

Though Mary has a unique place as the Queen of Heaven, Sacred Scrip- ture says that all the saints there will reign with Christ, having a share in his glory, authority, and power (see Rom 8:16–17; 2 Cor 3:18; 1 Pt 5:1; 2 Tim 2:12; Rv 2:26- 27; 22:5). Is salvation just a kind of eternal fire insurance, or is it much more—a share in God’s own nature (see 1 Pt 1:4)?

CLOSING PRAYER

Lord Jesus, I thank you that “the saying is sure”: If I have died with you, I will also live with you; if I endure, I shall also reign with you (see 2 Tim 2:11–12).
