St. Anselm reminds Our Lady (and himself) that there’s no doubt she will help him reach heaven, since God took human flesh from her, not to condemn sinners, but to save them.

We beg you, most holy Lady, by the favor that God did you in raising
you so high as to make all things possible to you with him, to act in such a way that the fullness of grace that you merited may make us partakers of your glory. Strive, most merciful Lady, to obtain for us what God desired for us when he was pleased to become Man in your chaste womb.

Lend us a willing ear. If you deign to pray to your Son for this, he will imme- diately grant it. It’s enough that you will our salvation, and then we are sure to obtain it. But who can restrain your great mercy?
If you, who are our mother, and the Mother of Mercy, don’t pity us, what will become of us when your Son comes to judge us? Help us, then, most com- passionate Lady, and don’t consider the multitude of our sins. Remember always that our Creator took human flesh from you, not to condemn sinners, but to save them.

If you had become Mother of God only for your own advantage, we might say that it mattered little to you whether we were lost or saved. But God clothed himself with your flesh for your salvation, and for that of all men. What will your great power and glory avail us, if you don’t make us partakers of your happiness? Help us, then, and protect us! You know how greatly we stand in need of your assistance. We entrust ourselves to you. Don’t let us lose our souls, but make
us eternally serve and love your beloved Son, Jesus Christ. —St. Anselm of Canterbury

IN GOD’S PRESENCE, CONSIDER . . .
Have I ever considered that Mary was chosen to bring Jesus into the world so that I could be among those who are saved? Does this consideration strengthen my faith in her assistance?

CLOSING PRAYER
From a prayer of St. Bernard of Clairvaux: Grant, blessed one, by the grace you have merited, that the One who through you was graciously pleased to become a partaker in our infirmity and misery, may also, through your intercession, make us partakers in his happiness and glory.
